Laying Down Heavy Things

While walking with the dog I passed this oak tree. She’s stood through many seasons. Braved many storms. Pieces of her lay close by, broken by the wind and weight of life.

Sometimes you just can’t hold it all. Sometimes some things have to be layed down. The weight of them are too heavy to continue carrying.

That can be true of us. We hold on to heavy things. Things that we should release because holding on to them could be the pulling down of us. Sometimes we must let pieces fall in order to live. In order to be free. To find rest.

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28 NAS)

He promises rest to those who come to Him. Those who are weary; those carrying heavy loads.

Some things we weren’t meant to carry on our own, or at all. We can lay them down or we can wait for them to fall, leaving us broken or pulling us down.

Jesus wants to free us from the heaviness this life can put on us and what we put on ourselves.

Are you carrying a heavy load today? Jesus wants to free you from it and carry it for you. He has rest waiting for you. You can lay your burden down – give it to Him.

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (vs. 29-30)

Do you already feel broken like the oak tree? Pieces scattered? When you give your brokenness to Him, He causes new growth to spring out from those broken places and bring new life.

So true, Charlotte. Some days I like to carry my own load, but I have noticed that when I do, I will get dragged down. So, I have to remind myself, that I am not walking through difficult situations alone. He is there to take the burden.
