Excuse Me, Your Attitude Is Showing

Years ago before we would step outside our front door we would always check ourselves in the full length mirror to make sure our slip was not showing; or as we used to say, “It’s snowing down south”. Today, I wonder if people have mirrors at all! Maybe it’s just my age showing, but I cannot get used to seeing bras worn on the outside of clothing, and “dental floss” (okay so it’s called a thong) sticking blatantly out for all to view. And don’t get me started on guys wearing their pant waist down around their knees! Ugh, okay, my attitude is showing!

All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast”. Proverbs 15:15

Our attitudes color our whole personality. We cannot always choose what happens to us, but we can choose our attitude toward each situation. The secret to a happy heart is filling our mind with thoughts that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely admirable, excellent along with other thoughts that dwell on the good things in life and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8). This was Paul’s secret as he faced imprisonment, and it can be ours as we face the struggles of daily living. We need to check our attitudes and then examine what we allow to enter our mind through television, books, conversations, movies, magazines and what we choose to dwell on. We may need to replace harmful input with some wholesome material. Above all we need to read God’s Word and pray asking God to give us an attitude adjustment so we can focus on what is good and pure.

So maybe the next time I see a girl with her bra on the outside of her clothes I need to say, “Excuse me miss, I assume no one told you this, but it is customary to wear our bra on the inside of our clothes.” Oops, my attitude is showing!

Dear gracious heavenly Father, help us to daily make the right choices of what we should put into our minds so that we can dwell on what is pure and worthy of praise. Where change needs to happen, give us an attitude adjustment so we can be a witness for you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Oh girl, first I have to say I LOVE the little honey bees by your name. Ok, I know that wasn’t the POINT of your message. lol

Second, I couldn’t agree more about the bra thing. Mercy!

Third, the pant/underwear thing is too silly to even discuss. Ridiculous.

Fourth, you are right on about what we allow to come INTO our hearts and our spirit. Not to offend any country fans or Garth Brooks fans (ha), but my husband listens to country (mostly) — which is fine. But after riding with him, I don’t like having song lyrics stuck in my head like, “I’ve got friends in low places, where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away!” If I even got those right. lol I’d rather have worship lyrics going through my heart!

    Is my attitude showing?

    Love ya!

I am so with you on that subject but you are right I need to check my attitude at the door all the time or mirror.

Yeah…I don\’t quite get the bra thing either…and I can so easily fall into judging others. I am finding as I age God is trying to show me more and more that He is capable of deaing with others hearts. I have enough work to do with my own. I do not always HAVE to share my wonderful opinions. Yet i know that sometimes He does use me and work through my boldness and talkativeness. Still GRACE…I have not always been so wise. I have not always made wise choices. I have done VERY stupid things and worn very stupid things. Who are we to judge our brother? But it sure is hard when they can barely walk because they won\’t pull their pants up! LOL!

Michelle, You said what we all are thinking!!! Awhile ago my son had a girlfriend that dressed, well more provactive than my eyes cared to look at. God really showed me something about “my attitude” about this girl and her style of dressing. God opened my eyes to the fact that this young lady came from a less than desirable home life and her mom who was more into herself and her addictions never took the time to TEACH this young lady some things like covering up. God showed me that I could LEARN to love this young lady as He did. (He loved her for what was on the inside and not the outside). Wow. It was truly a lesson in love.

We cannot always choose what happens to us, but we can choose our attitude toward each situation—so true.

I’ve been reminded a couple tiems this week about the verse from Phil and guarding what we think about.

    Michelle,

I am right there with you too about the clothing thing.
It is funny how our attitude does show right out loud in our lives huh!
Attitudes are sneaky little things that creep in sometimes and sour our lives without us really even knowing that they are there.
But, an attitude caught can be changed by the revelation of God’s unconditional love, mercy, and grace. He is so good!

Michele, you are too funny! Your attitude is showing. LOL. I so agree wjth you when you wrote that we can’t always choose what happens to us but we can choose our attitude towards each situation. And filling our minds with Scripture and things that are good, lovely, etc is so important, especially in these times. Thank you for sharing this one.
