An Acts 2 Church

This past Sunday I led a bible study for our women’s group in the book of Acts.  We covered Acts 2 and spent some time discussing verses  42-47:

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

One of the questions was “how does the life and purpose of your church compare to this group?” I was prepared for comments on how far we have to go to resemble the Acts 2 church, and I was pleasantly surprised when their responses were overwhelmingly positive.

If you have taken a meal to a family who has suffered a loss; visited a church member in the hospital; written a card to cheer someone up; called someone you haven’t seen in church in awhile; prayed with someone; participated in communion; gone on a prayer walk; played in a worship band; given sacrificially; opened your home to someone in need; attended a revival; been part of your church’s fellowship . . . you are helping making your fellowship an Acts 2 church. All the little mercies we extend, sympathy we give, meals we cook, cookies we bake, hugs we bestow, listening ears we provide — these are all part of what it means to be an Acts 2 church.

My prayer is that God would add daily to all our churches, that He would be glorified in our fellowship, and that we would radiate the grace of God to those in our communities.
