Giving and Receiving

Giving and receiving gifts are a tradition of the Christmas season.

I’ve always enjoyed giving gifts.

But I’m not one who loves to shop for hours.  So in the past, I’d always be on the lookout for perfect gifts all year long.  If I had to go to the store for something, I might come across something I knew a family member or friend would love.  This was so much easier than waiting for the last minute and dealing with the crowds of people.

But receiving was always a bit harder for me.  For years, I told my family to not waste their money buying me gifts.  I’d tell them to send a card which was always appreciated.

What about you?  Do you enjoy giving or receiving gifts best?

God has a gift for each one of us too.  It’s the gift of eternal life through His Son Jesus.

But we must receive this gift …by faith.

Some people try to work to earn this gift but …it doesn’t work that way.

Some people believe they don’t deserve this gift and …they’re right.

Some people have lots of head knowledge but have never received this free gift into their hearts.

God’s grace towards us is truly amazing!  We can’t earn salvation and we certainly don’t deserve it.

John 3:17 says:

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

Romans 5:8 says:

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 6:23 says:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

May this Christmas season of giving and receiving have real meaning for you.

Will you receive the best gift of all? His name is …Jesus.

Blessings and love,

Great post Debbie. I also posted on receiving last week. Isn’t it great when you find that ‘perfect’ gift for someone? And, receiving the gift of his love…can we ever really fathom that?

What a beautiful entry! I absolutely love to give, not just at Christmas, but all the time. I am so glad that the Lord has blessed me with the ability to meet some of the needs of others throughout most of my adult life. It has just been the greatest blessing. And, I do enjoy receiving gifts, especially when I know that the giver put a lot of thought into the gift.

Heavenly blessings to you this Christmas season!

    Dear Debbie,
For sure; we have received the greatest gift possible.
all other giving and receiving becomes dust compared to this.
    1 John 3:

“1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
Thanks for being my Norwegian/American sister in God.
    Yours Felisol

Merry Christmas, Debbie! I love to give at Christmas, too. But, I have to admit that I love surprises under the tree. I guess I’m like a kid in that way. But you are so right. The free gift of salvation is the very best gift of all. Thanks for sharing this great word with us!

    Blessings!!
    Joan

Amen, Debbie. We sure cannot earn it, but we can freely receive it 🙂

Powerful message my dear friend. Praying for all who not yet have open His gift to mankind.

i used to enjoy receiving gifts period. i didn’t like the idea of going to the mall and buying gifts just for the heck of it. but now, God has taught me to give graciously. as it turned out, i have more joy when i give. i buy something that a person can use rather than buy something that would only be a dust gatherer on a shelf.
