The Curse of the Kudzu
My son loves kudzu! Every time we would drive down the road when he was a child he would see it and say, “Oh, that is so pretty! I wish we had some in our yard.” I will have to admit, when it is green it is pretty and makes things look like the shape of animals and stuff. But when you get to the “root” of the matter it is not that pretty. Have you ever studied kudzu or read about it?
There are some interesting facts such as: it can grow more than a foot a day, roots can weigh up to 500 pounds, and stems can grow as large as 4 inches in diameter. It covers more than 2 million acres in forest land. It destroys valuable forest by preventing trees from getting sunlight. In other words, it starves them to death. The vine is almost impossible to eliminate once it has taken root. Some herbicides make it grow better. It may take up to ten years to kill it.
Does this remind you of anything? It reminds me of sin. But sometimes not even the really bad sins but those little things we allow into our lives that take root and then grow and grow. It may even look okay to start with, maybe pretty to the flesh or carnal man. But the end result is so devastating.
Matthew 12:29 speaks of one coming in to a strong man’s house to plunder his goods. But how can he plunder his goods unless he first bind the strong man and then he can.I think it is interesting that it even calls him a strong man and yet someone was able to bind him and plunder his goods. Many times we think we are okay, we are strong in God, we have it all together, we are faithful Christians. But all it takes is one seed of bitterness, unforgiveness or hatred to get into our hearts and we allow it to take root and grow. Before we know it, it has taken over our lives and keeps us from getting the light and life from the true SON. It causes a spiritual death in us if left untreated.
Lord, help me each day to take the herbicide of your word and apply it to my life so that there is no bed seed taking root in my heart. Let me allow your spirit to work in me so there is no room for sin or hatred. Let your light shine on me and through me as I grow in you, but nothing carnal and sinful grows in me.

It is so true, there are these little things that sometimes take over in our heart. May God continue to guide me to remove these little sins in my life.
