Hope for the Hard Hearted

I’m a visual learner. So when I saw these sunflowers I knew there was a message of hope to share. Good thing this street light was extra long. It gave me time to snap a picture. This image still fascinates me. Here’s this rock hard surface with sunflowers growing in the cracks. In the middle of an intersection, in the turning lane!

This once smooth road became worn and cracked over time from change of weather and constant travelers. And in these cracks, rain came down from heaven and watered windblown sunflower seeds. These seeds found their hiding place. They remained in the crack, in the dark, undisturbed.

There in the cracks of this once solid hard surface something beautiful began to grow.

Signs of new life.

Hope emerged in full bloom.

Now to you, do you know someone who is still hard hearted? Can you count the days, weeks, and years have you prayed for change and see nothing? Have you exhausted yourself from trying to help them? Do your tears still flow at random?

Here’s hope for you.

God is working even still.

Our God is able to soften hard hearts. He longs to pour out His love and mercy on those He created. Yes, even the hard hearts matter to Him. Don’t give up hope. Keep praying and believing for beautiful blooms. One day they will come. And when they do, people like me will stop and take notice and praise His Holy name.

Father God, I thank You for the sweet reminder of your faithfulness. I praise You in advance for the beauty and life that is yet to come from hard hearts all across the world. Start with a crack if need be. Let Your truth can be planted today. Thank You for the rains and sunshine that make beautiful things grow. I trust You to do a new thing in those I love near and far. I love You, Jesus. Amen.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Ecc. 3-12 (NIV)

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV)

I like that scripture in Ecclesiastes! Even the hardest of hearts, he can soften by the Lord. That is so amazing! Praise the Lord!

Tiffany, what a great reflection. Even the hardest of hearts can be softened by His Spirit. We must never give up hope on anyone, God loves each of us, so deeply and passionately.

Hm, neat thing, my spam-word is ‘life’; how fitting for your devotion.
It is true, we should not give up, even if the road seems hard and long. May I always trust Him and not give up to change harden hearts.

What a great illustration, Tiffany! It always amazes me when I see grass growing up in the middle of the concrete. You are right–God can do anything. A beautiful reminder.

Tonight I was praying for a friend’s daughter and pictured a vine trapped on an old trellis. I googled “prayer for hard hearted” and found your words: “Keep praying and believing for beautiful blooms. One day they will come.” What a powerful confirmation!
