Overcoming The Overwhelming

When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are morethan those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:15-17

Did you ever feel like that servant?

“Oh no, my Lord! What shall I do?”

Did you ever feel like the odds were against you? That you faced an impossible task with insufficient resources? That the mountain ahead was insurmountable?

I did.

For a few years, I’ve wanted to get involved in some way to combat human trafficking – modern day slavery. But it always seemed too overwhelming a problem for a simple mom from New Jersey. I started a file and kept information and links to organizations fighting the battle, but wasn’t sure how to proceed.

And then came my rallying cry. It came in the form of a tiny sentence, a small facebook comment I posted on my friend Tanya’s page that triggered another friend to say, “If you do something, let me know.” And I thought, well I guess it’s time I do something.

Having no plan, but just a passion to serve, I met with Tanya (who I’d only met once before). Over her dining room table, we tossed about ideas, small and large, ever mindful that there were just two of us.

That was two months ago.

We now are 22 people and our group, Justice Network, is growing daily. We seek to raise awareness, to support organizations already on the front lines both globally and locally, to be a resource in educating, empowering, and equipping people, to minister to the survivors.

Our website will be up within a week. Our first major event will be in October followed by smaller monthly events. We are supporting both global and local organizations and are officially affiliated with the NJ Coalition Against Human Trafficking, participating with them in events across our state. With the Super Bowl coming to northern NJ in February, there’s no time to lose.

And today, my team and I are meeting with our US Congressman on behalf of IJM and the State Dept. Office regarding human trafficking. Please keep us in prayer.

Elijah’s servant thought there was just the two of them. Before Elijah prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened, he said, “Don’t be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” The Lord spoke these words to me as well. And then He opened my eyes to see what He can do with two simple moms from NJ.

Edmund Burke, famous for saying “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” also said, “Nobody makes a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.”

If you are facing a monumental task ahead of you, keep in mind the words of a Himalayan Sherpa guide who led our friend up Mt. Everest, “If you are facing in the right direction, keep putting one foot in front of the other.”

Is there a mountain ahead of you? Remember “one plus God is a majority!”  If you say as I did, “there are just two of us,” be sure the two are you and God. Face the right direction, and take one step at a time in the right direction.

Would you keep today’s meeting in prayer as well as our direction for the future? Please pray for those bound in slavery and for those valiantly fighting for their freedom. And how can I pray for you beloved?

i am somebody

Thank you Marsha! Truly the Lord gets all the glory as I stand by with my jaw on the floor! Our meeting today with the Congressman’s office went so well. Our presentation was well received and we believe that he will cosponsor the bill, which was our request. Glory to God!

It is exciting Iris! Although I struggle with the word ‘exciting’ because the issue is so heinous. Yet to see God working and to be a part of it is so rewarding.

Way to go girlfriend! I’m with you 10000%. Man how my Jewish girlfriend is moving mountains – with the Lord! God is using you in a mighty way! Keep your eyes on those flaming chariots around you.

    I am your prayer warrior!

So excited for you and the Justice Network!

I feel like the next month or so I am facing a mountain. There are a ton of things to do and I am wondering where I will find time. I am just going to keep putting one foot in front of the other and pray for wisdom and efficiency.
