The Rock Cries

I want to ask you a question.

Whose salvation are you currently praying?

Your spouse, a son or daughter, a close friend, a distant family member, a neighbor? Most of you know that I pray for my unsaved spouse. I petition God daily with Romans 10:10 on my lips, beseeching the Lord to bring this passage to reality in my husband’s life.

Do you ever worry that perhaps your loved one might never find Jesus? In the early years of my marriage, this repeating fear plagued me. However, over the many years of walking with Jesus, I have found a quiet truth that God has my husband’s salvation moment brilliantly planned. I needn’t worry. Although there are still rare occasions when doubt surfaces and my faith for this future event wanes.

In those moments I found God sends me tiny messages of hope to help me remain firm in my belief. Most of the time His encouragement arrives through scripture or a message at church or a story I find online. But sometimes, HE BLASTS HIS HOPE FROM A LOUD VOICE and many hear it and stand in awe.

Such is what happened in the story I’m about to tell you.

Let me set the stage.

In Luke 19:36-40 there is a passage of scripture where Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem. This is the triumphal entry. So many astounding things occur during this short passage but there is a single sentence that is often over-looked and difficult to conceptualize. However, I am a witness that I have watched this very scripture come to life.

Listen in:

As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

Did you catch that last sentence?

Last month, my friend Lauralyn was seated in her family room during a small group church meeting and on this particular evening there came a pounding on her front door.

Knock… Knock.. Knock.

“Hello”

“Hi, I live across the street. “ The young woman said to my friend standing in the doorway. “I saw the rock you have by your front door. Can you tell me about Jesus?”

I kid you not this is nearly the exact exchange. The young woman went on to say that she and her husband were trying to find God. They had visited a few of the churches that the door-to-door missionaries had told them about but they didn’t seem right.

She said to Lauralyn, “I saw your rock out front by your door, the rock with a picture of a Bible on it. I thought, perhaps you could help me find God?”

Lauralyn invited her in and she joined the study group and there this young woman found God. Her and her husband have been attending church every Sunday since.

May I tell you something more? On November 28th, she will be baptized into the family of God.

Now perceive this. God’s Word is true and I am a witness that The ROCKS WILL CRY OUT!

I will point out that my friend Lauralyn and her husband are some of the most on fire believers I know. They are absolutely NOT quiet about their faith. However the devil has frightened many believers with the lie that sharing their hope with their neighbors will cost them too much. They remain silent.

Remain silent, and indeed, the rocks will cry out. And, even if you shout from the roof tops be assured that God will go to extravagant lengths to bring a child home. I rest in this kind of wild hope. I rest in the knowledge that God loves my unsaved husband more than I can fathom. I rest in the belief that God holds my man, our lives, this entire universe, safely in His capable hands.

If God will use a rock to meet this young couple, He is willing and able to use anything to save the people you are praying for. Never stop praying. Always believe and never, ever doubt the power or TRUTH of the Word of God.

If you want to learn how to order a rock of your own, please let me know in the comments. Be blessed, Lynn

Hi sweet friend, Love this-what a visual reminder that we often need. Girl, I for one can’t wait to see how the Lord gets ahold of our men and turns their lives upside down. We are blessed because we have such incredible hubby’s but can you imagine the blessings when we can honestly say we are equally yoked.
    Hugs and Happy Thanksgiving.

This blesses me so, Lynn. Thank you for the encouragement for those of us with unsaved spouses. God has been so precious to give me little signs of hope in the softening I’ve seen recently in the heart of my husband.

I love the story of the rock! That is awesome, and a powerful testimony not only to the confession and profession of our faith, but the tender mercy of our God to draw this couple to “the rock”. How loving (and creative) He is. Give us eyes, Lord, to recognize those moments quickly when they come, and Your words, as the Spirit of God draws them closer. Wow! This excites me!
