What Time is it?

What time is it?  Everyone always seems to be in a hurry.  Multi-tasking is a given.  I notice a person look at me and I think they’re talking to me.  But then I see the ear piece and realize they are talking on their cell phone.  Although I enjoy our modern conveniences, there are days when I miss quietness and a time when people sat and simply talked and …listened to one another.

I recently visited southern California.  My aunt and I stopped at a little town called Montrose.  It was an old fashioned kind of town.  In fact, I remembered an article I’d read.  Jan Karon (author of the Mitford series) was interviewed and she was asked if any places she’d visited reminded her of her imaginary town of Mitford.  She mentioned Montrose, California.

As my aunt and I walked the tree lined streets and stopped for a cup of tea, I felt relaxed.  I noticed the clock in the center of the town of Melrose.  During our afternoon, I hadn’t really thought of the time.

Recently though I’ve been thinking of time.  How do I spend my days?  Am I eager to share my faith with others?  Or am I focused on feeling good and enjoying my time?

The Bible tells us that Jesus will return one day.  I believe that.  Do I know the exact day or hour?  No but I want to be ready when that day arrives.  It may come after I’ve died and already met my Savior but it could be sooner than that.

Matthew 24: 36-42 says:

“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.  That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.  Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.  Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.  Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”

So as I spend time traveling and visiting family and friends this summer, I want to be aware of the time.  I don’t want to waste precious moments.  I want to be able to share my faith in Jesus with those I love and care about.

May we always be ready.  Will you surrender your time?  Will you allow Jesus to work in you and through you to touch someone today?  Don’t be so busy you’ve no time to share His message of love with others.

Blessings and love,

I was just telling my husband this morning as he left for work, “Friday…already?” Time surely goes by very fast. And it is so easy to get caught up with the busyness in this life and most of the time, things about God’s business slip from our minds. I’m glad you are giving us that reminder today. To always be ready for the Lord’s return. It seems like a beautiful town. I love settings like that where you are not reminded about how fast time runs but instead, feel like time is slow as you enjoy time with loved ones. God bless and protect you wherever you go.

Debbie, I enjoyed your post. So many times we can get caught up in things and not even realize how much time has gone by. Many important things can be neglected as time ticks away, may God find me spending my time productively for His Kingdom. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Great post Debbie, sounds like Montrose would be a wonderful place to stop time for a few days. Your summer has gotten off to a great start and I hope it holds all kinds of fun and enjoyment for you. You deserve it! Blessings!

You are right, Debbie. We often rush through the days and forget to share the love our Savior has for all people. We don’t talk much anymore. I need to be more aware of the time I spend each day. Thank you for the gentle reminder.

I love the Mitford Series. What a blessing you found a sweet little town! Thanks for this post. I will be more aware of time now, and take the time to share God’s message.

Time flies in my little world. I sleep twice as much as “normal” people, so my active days become very short. Too short.
I have learned to seize the moment, and somehow I’ve been granted the gift of plainly telling people I’ll pray for them, when they come with their troubled minds. and I do pray. Not as much as I’d like to, but praying has kind of becoming my “thing.” When I cannot be much out and about I can pray, and when the answers come, they’re a double blessing.

    Debbie:

I really needed this reminder tonight. Summer has weighed me down. I feel trapped and burdened with responsibility. I need to move myself to a place of rest, to a time of slowing down and taking in my surroundings. Last week, we had VBS at our church; it took a lot of energy and willingness to walk away from some of my other responsibilities. Still and yet, it was very meaningful to me because it allowed me the opportunity to be with God’s children, face to face, many who’ve yet to meet my Jesus. Such a simple thing, talking to children; such a profound opportunity.

As for Mitford, well, I’m a Mitford gal, grew up in a Mitford town, and I’m ready to head back there at a moment’s notice. Blessings, friend.
