RESPECT
I know, I know. You might be thinking “I love my husband but …respect?”
Listen to what the Bible says in Ephesians 5:33 (NIV):
“However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”
It’s easy for women to love. After all, we enjoy being loved. Love seems to come more naturally for women. So we give what we want to receive.
I recently read a book called “Love and Respect” by Dr. Emerson Emmerich and it changed my marriage. I learned that men have a great need for respect. And these days many women have trouble respecting men. You might be thinking that your man doesn’t deserve respect.
But I’d like to make a suggestion.
For Valentine’s Day, write out a few things that you respect about your husband. Think long and hard and …be honest.
Maybe it’s something simple like …”I respect you for working so hard to support our family.” Or “I respect you for always tucking our children in bed each night.”
Men need to hear the words. It’s amazing that when a man strays, it’s often because they don’t feel respected and go looking for someone to tell them words they long to hear.
So this Valentine’s Day why not give it a try? I’d love to hear about his response.

True, true words! If I haven’t learned anything else after 40 years of marriage, respect for my Hubby is one thing I have learned. But, I can always use a reminder.

You are right, Debbie; the book is truly an eye opener. At least it was for me.
I am so blessed that I learned this valuable lesson many years ago. Often my husband comments how happy he is that I honor, “respect” him. Sometimes our guys get a lot of respect at work, but when they come through the door to their home, they get little respect. It really is to our advantage to respect our husbands.
