What About Me?

25 Oct

“Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

As I’ve made my way through one religious text after another, a common theme sticks out. Part of being a Christian is allowing God to use your life as an instrument by which to do His work.

How many of us have heard about the missionaries toiling away in third world countries helping the poor and ailing? How many people have renounced their own religion and turned to Christianity against the best wishes (and beliefs) of their friends and family? How many people have given their lives and freedom for their faith?

“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28 (NASB)

Everywhere I look, I see God uses others to do His will. I hear the great stories of lives those who devote their time, resources and lives to do the work of God.

And yet, I feel left out. What is MY life for, my Lord? When is it my time do to your work? What is my calling?

Will I find it stuck under the couch cushion with the cookie crumbs from yesterday’s snacks? Or is it hiding in the lint trap of the dryer? Maybe it resides in the bottom of the sippy cups I rinse out countless times during the course of my day?

Where do I fit into His grand plan? Where is the place I am meant to make a difference? When is it my time?

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

Oh Lord, please lead those who seek to do Your will. Bring us the silence and stillness required to hear You speak. Prompt us to action in the way only You can. We are ready and willing to do Your work. Lead us where You would like us to go. Help us to see Your will in all we do until our moment in Your light arrives.

This we ask in Your name.

There is an awesome book called “the Invisible Woman” by Nicole Johnson. This is a fabulous book for any mom who feels this way…it compares our calling with those individuals that spend a lifetime building the great cathedrals …this book really brought into perspective for me the truth that I was made for God’s purpose in the little things of every day. There is also a great Bible study that I am doing from the Following God Discipleship Series called, Living God’s Will: Reading and applying God’s Signs For Your Life…it is a tremendous resource in seeking and understanding God’s will in our lives. Have a great day!! (I think you wrote this post didn’t you CJ???)

This made me cry, first, because Ive been there, next, because I’m struggling with writing a book proposal. (struggling ’cause I’m stuck at the moment, and feel basically feel inadequate.) On just this topic. There are excerpts on my OTHER blog;)

    My secret project:

I’m still wondering what my “call” is. Besides being a godly wife and mother, what is the one way I could make a difference for His Kingdom? I try to look for at least one way, everyday, but I fall short so easily. I’m thankful for grace and the blood of our Savior.
Recently, our pastor said that our service to God is kinda of like when a father is pushing a lawnmower outside, and his son is following him, with his toy mower. The child really doesn’t do anything, but his father is glad to have him try. That sums up how I feel about it, anyway.

this is true! “may HE increase and ALL OF ME decrease”

may YOUR WILL be done and as it is done…may your kingdom come as well! on earth as it is already being done in heaven.

    thank you for this post.

You know – I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that we can do reach out to others through blogging. And as Sissy, said, sometimes God puts us between our own for walls to minister. I think raising children His way is a HUGE ministry.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts this morning.

I feel as Iris does. That part of the calling is to spread the word and every time we do so even by listing a small scripture or lifting up a sad friend we are doing what we are called to do even by blogging! I have been praying this same prayer for a while now and I am beginning to see what he has in store for me. Wonderful posting!
