Do You Have Passion?

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
(John 15:4-5 ESV)

As you may know, I do not do New Year’s resolutions; I have never been successful keeping any of them. However, I always start searching for word that I can focus on in the coming year. This year was surrender. For 2016 my word will be “Passion”.

I am not talking about the passion between two people. I am talking about the intense emotion you feel in your heart about something; a compelling enthusiasm/desire.

Passion is derived from the Medieval Latin passi?n, meaning Christ’s suffering on the cross. Some of the synonyms words for passion are fervor, zeal, or ardor.

There are many things I am passioned about, but I want to channel the passion in the coming year. How can I use passion that will glorify God? I do not know yet; I know that if I channel is correctly I can point others to the Cross. His light will shine through me.

“Give me the love that leads the way, the faith that nothing can dismay, the hope no disappointments tire, the passion that will burn like fire; Let me not sink to be a clod: Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.” ~ Amy Carmichael

Do you have a word for the coming year? If so, please share it with me in the comments below.

Lord of mercy and grace. Help me to channel my passion to proper way. May I see the needs of others as You see them. May fearlessly pursue what sets my soul on fire. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen!

Have you found the word yet? I usually don’t have one until the first week of the year, but this year was different.
