Don’t Stop Seeking

I downloaded the free book to my kindle and left it there unread for months. Finally one day I opened it and started reading.  I love Biblical fiction and was immediately hooked. The name of the book, Gods and Kings: Chronicles of The Kings, by Lynn Austin. This book brought the bookworm in me to life and in less than a week I had purchased and read the remaining four books in the series.

As I read through the series based on the lives of some of the biblical kings, there is a question that has been playing over and over in my mind.

How is it that you prove God often as you seek his face, you see him move on your behalf as you call out to him and yet with all of this evidence e.g. I seek God and God moves, you convince yourself, maybe it wasn’t really God, maybe it would have happened anyway?

2 Chronicles 26:3-5

3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jecoliah; she was from Jerusalem.

4 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done.

5 He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.

The above verses refer to King Uzziah. If you read the chapter you’ll see that King Uzziah did great exploits in the name of God.  In his early years on the throne he sought the Lord and desired to please him.  Had he continued to do that, he would have continued to experience success.  However, he didn’t. He got caught up in pride and according to verse 16, his pride became his downfall.

It’s easy to become distracted, to become “me” focused instead of “God’ focused. However, God does not and will not share his glory. When we stop seeking him, he leaves us to our own devices until we realize that he is the one who prospers our plans. He is the one who brings it to pass.

Lord help me to acknowledge you in everything I do. May I always give you the glory that is due unto your because truly, I am nothing without you.

Oh, so true, Bernadine. We sometimes believe that we don’t need Him to succeed in life. But His is our strength and peace.

I am glad that you had time to read again; I have books that I have not read yet 🙁
