Encourage The Fainthearted

“And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14-22 ESV – emphasis mine)

I have said it before, and will say it again: social media can be powerful and very discouraging. Especially now in an election year. I have mentioned also that I will not (ever) talk about politics. My reason is twofold: 1. I am only a guest in this country 2. I do not want to be disrespectful to my host country.

So with all the negativity that is on all the social media, I started posting “My encouragement for you today” every Tuesday on Facebook. Since my Facebook and Twitter accounts are linked, my encouragement post hits on two different platforms.

But why am I doing this? I believe the reason is substantiated by Scripture. Not only do I want to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ, but all people that I am connected with.

As Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5: “…encourage the fainthearted…seek to do good to one another and to everyone…:” I believe that includes all people around the globe; not only believers.

I have always enjoyed speaking/writing encouraging words. I guess that is just part of me. I mean what I say from the bottom of my heart.

Next time you feel the itch to post something on social media, I encourage you to pray first, and that your words are full of encouragement for the fainthearted.

Lord of mercy and grace. Thank You for Your Words of encouragement through Scripture. May we take Your Words to heart and be encouraging to those around us. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
