Unchangeable

This little violet has been with me for years. We’ve moved a couple of times, and she has come along without whining or fussing. In spite of the changes around her she quietly blooms right where I put her. Her trust and faithfulness speak volumes to me.

One thing I will never be accused of being is spontaneous. I look at those around me who eagerly step from one adventure into another and long to be like them. I am the one who tosses and turns all night mentally packing up the house weeks before it is time to move. I make lists days in advance of a vacation and then worry about what I most certainly have forgotten. If it were possible, I would like to be able to plan out all my days and then – most important of all – never have them deviate from said plan.

I am in the winter season of my life and  have learned from years of experience  life simply doesn’t work that way. There have been life changing circumstances along the way that have derailed any plans I might have had. It has taken much time and soul searching to come to terms with the fact that I can’t control any of those things, and I cannot expect the Lord to alter events according to my plan.

Because the truth is He already has a plan for my life. None of the things that shake my faith to its very core take Him by surprise. He already knows. He doesn’t promise to change my circumstances so that I’ll be happy. He promises to be with me and to use them to make me more like Jesus. He understands my fears, but He asks me to exchange them for faith – a belief that He is all that He has said He is.

Slowly, ever so slowly, I have learned that simple trust in the midst of changes I do not want, brings a peace I could never have imagined. He is the rock I can stand on. His promises truly never fail. When everything around me is changing and shaking, He is the unchangeable, unshakable God who holds my life safely in His hands.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

Linda

This is so me, it brought a smile of agreement to my face. Thanks for the reminder that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.

It is good for me to know that our Lord is unchangeable. I like to plan too, but most of the time, my plans don’t pan out. I know though that whatever happens, the Lord is with me all the way.
