Faithful Love

The story of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife is a familiar one to me.  You can read it in Genesis 39.   In this story Potiphar’s wife tricks Joseph.  He does the right thing in refusing her advances, and he is lied about because of it. Then he ends up in prison because Potiphar believes his wife.  It doesn’t seem fair, does it?

As we listened to this passage this past week through our daily reading plan, a particular verse struck me.  Notice verse 21.

“Potiphar was furious when he heard his wife’s story about how Joseph had treated her. 20 So he took Joseph and threw him into the prison where the king’s prisoners were held, and there he remained. 21 But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden. 22 Before long, the warden put Joseph in charge of all the other prisoners and over everything that happened in the prison. 23 The warden had no more worries, because Joseph took care of everything. The Lord was with him and caused everything he did to succeed.” Genesis 39:19–23

Even in prison the Lord was with Joseph showing him His love.  This should be a comfort to us.

There are many others examples in the Bible of someone being in prison, and we read how God was with them during this time.

It does not matter where we are or in what circumstances we find ourselves; the Lord is with us and will show us His faithful love.  Things may feel bad and seem unfair from our human perspective, but this story is a great reminder that God can use even the difficult times to work in our lives for His glory.

Have a day of blessings!
