For Mothers…Be Encouraged!

Someone had hurt me. Broken a promise made to me with no apology and no explanation.  I was devastated, so I did what I always did when I was hurting.  I ran to the safe place called Mommy, laid my head on her shoulder and cried out my hurt.

She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. Proverbs 31:26 (NKJV)

She offered words of wisdom and comfort to me, her overgrown, almost college graduate baby.  Later, that promise that was broken, she somehow found a way to make it right. That’s what she always, tried to do heal my hurts and mend my brokenness while gently pointing me to the one who never disappoints, Jesus Christ.

My mother has been at her heavenly address for over ten years now. Still, no matter what’s going on in my life I remember her words of wisdom, encouragement, instruction and advice.  I also remember her unconditional love for me, even on the days I was as prickly as a porcupine and only a mother would risk getting close.

So although I’m not a mother, I know a little something about mothers.  I know the sacrifices you make, the never ending support you offer and the unconditional love you give every single day, expecting nothing in return.

Hence, today, I would like to say to mothers, whatever stage of motherhood you’re in.

You are loved!

You are appreciated!

You are needed!

Your words of wisdom and advice do not fall on deaf ears, even though it often seems that way. Continue to do what you do best. Even when it doesn’t feel as if you’re getting through to those sometimes troublesome little ones. The know it all teenagers and, even the adult children who sometimes need a reminder that you’ve walked this road before and just maybe have a few more answers than they may think.

Don’t get tired as you walk with Jesus, and train your children to do the same.  If you haven’t yet, one day you’ll hear them say “Mommy, I appreciate all you’ve taught me and all the sacrifices you’ve made throughout the years. I’m grateful that God blessed me with a mother as wonderful as you.” My mom heard variations of those words from me many times before she went home to be with Jesus.

Since I began this post talking about my mother, I’ll end it in her trade mark parting words, mothers, be encouraged, God loves you!

I thought I’d share this post I wrote a while back in honor of Mothers Day.

Happy Mother’s Day Mothers!

Wow – it is already ten years that your mom went to heaven? Mom’s do have the best advice; I miss talking to mine as well. Thank you for the uplifting words.
