Lest We Forget

Lest We ForgetIt’s hard to believe it has been eight years since that horrific day that changed America and the world alike.  Each year since, I have been asked numerous times the one question that I believe everyone who was living at the time can answer for years to come; “Where were you September 11th, when the terrorists attacked America?”

I wholeheartedly believe that we should never forget the over 3000 souls that lost their lives in this treacherous act of violence.  Nor should we forget the sacrifice and loss of thousands of others who have and continue to fight the endless war on terrorism.  My heart breaks every time I think of a mother, wife, child, father, brother, sister, etc… who has lost a loved one through this ongoing battle with terrorism.  I cannot even imagine what they go through on a daily basis.

I may be able to answer the question, “Where were you on September 11th?,” but I cannot answer the next question that usually arises after, “WHY did this happen?”  “Why did God allow this to happen? “  “Why?”  As much as I wish I could give a logical and clear answer to that question, I cannot; but I can point them to the One that can give them hope when all hope seems to be lost; the One who can give them the Peace that passes all understanding.  In 1 Peter 3:15 the Apostle Peter encourages us to, “… sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” (KJV)

It is a time of uncertainty that we live in today, with so much hardship, suffering, and sorrow, but as the apostle Peter wrote, we are to be prepared within our own hearts to give an answer to why we have the hope and peace within us as Christians.  So today, as we all remember those who lost their lives eight years ago through treacherous acts of violence, as well as those who have sacrificed their lives these past eight years through the War on Terrorism, may we be ready to give an answer of Hope that is found only through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  If you do not know the Hope and Peace that I am writing about, please take a moment right now to view this special message from the Billy Graham Association (http://www.billygraham.org/SH_StepsToPeace.asp).  I have also compiled a list of NIV Bible verses of Hope. (http://michele-risingabove.blogspot.com/2008/08/hope.html)   Please take the time to view them and may they give you HOPE today and every day.

Dear Gracious Heavenly Father, we come to You with broken hearts for those who so tragically lost their lives eight years ago today, and for the loved ones who continue to mourn their passing.  May you wrap your loving arms around them and continue to give them comfort, help and love.  We thank you Father for the men and women in our Armed Forces who continue to protect us from the terrorists who continually try to destroy America and all that it stands for.  Thank you, Father for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives so we may continue to have the freedoms we have today.  We are so thankful for the Hope and Peace that can only come from knowing and trusting in Your precious Son, Jesus Christ or Savior.  If there is one who is reading this today and does not know the Hope and Peace we are talking about, may today be the day of their salvation.  In Jesus name, Amen.

God is still in control. Many lives were lost that day, that was a tragedy. Still today, many lives are being lost … spiritually. What a tragedy. Thanks for helping us to remember the heroes that have fallen. -blessings.

This is a day we must never forget. I believe we need to continue to be vigilent and pray for our country and our government leaders. May we Christians live as we are called to live; in love and spread that love of Christ to others. We need to be different from the world and not just like them.
