God’s Ways Are Not Our Ways

I am a planner.  I’m not the type who plans out every minute of my day or week but I do like to have good idea of where I’m going and how I’m going to get there.

This being said, during this year I’ve made many plans.  I’ve written then down on paper, prayed over them and waited for God bring them to pass. However, as I waited I started to get disappointed because it seemed as if God wasn’t answering my prayers.

I confided to a friend one day, “God has not worked anything out the way I expected him to!” Her answer was, “But he is working it out, and that’s the important thing.”  I stopped for a moment and thought about those areas I needed God to move in.  She was correct.  God had moved in every single area.  The method and even the timing was not what I had planned but the results were exactly what I needed.

Sometimes we get caught up in the how, when and where. We forget that, God’s ways are not our ways.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)

How Lord? When Lord? Why Lord? Where Lord?

So many questions…  However, if we stay focused on the questions we’ll miss the fact that God has been answering all along.  He rarely answers in the way we plan but, he answers.  His timing may seem off to us but if we reflect on the times he’s worked on our behalf we’ll come to the conclusion that his timing is perfect.

I’m learning that while it’s always an excellent idea to have a plan I have to leave room for God to move and trust that He knows what he’s doing.

Only I can tell you what is going to happen even before it happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. Isaiah 46:10 (NLT)

Dear God, Your word says that only you know what is going to happen before it happens and that everything you plan will come to pass, for you do whatever you wish.  Help us to trust you with our plans and believe that you will not fail us even if you send the answers in unexpected ways. Amen

Amen to that, Bernadine. I am there where you are; still planning things. But just like you so beautifully said: we need to leave room for God to move.

Thank you my sweet friend for your encouragement!
