What’s in Your Heart?

“Oh Wow $20.00,” I exclaimed to myself as I pulled what I thought was a piece of paper out of my handbag. I hadn’t used that particular bag in a few months and I had put it there the last time I used it and had forgotten about it. However, I found it at just when I needed it most.

This is how the word of God is. At times we read and it seems like we’re not understanding it or getting anything from it. However, as we read and listen to the word of God we are hiding it away in our hearts without even realizing it. But like that $20.00 did to me it will come back to you when you really need it.

11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. 12 Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:11-12;105

There may be days when you’re going through situations and a scripture you didn’t even realize that you knew just comes to mind. At that moment that scripture may contain the answer you were seeking. It may be something that causes you to pause and think a moment about a decision you were going to make or something that encourages or motivates you to make it through the day. Whatever the case may be, it can only happen if the word is already in you.

So I encourage you to hide God’s word away in your heart. Even on the days when it doesn’t seem like anything is sinking in continue to spend time in His word. I promise you’ll never regret it.

Thanks Bernadine! I have also found that to be true. I love it when God brings scripture to mind at just the right time. Sometimes it is when I am facing something difficult in my life and His Word comes to my mind to comfort, advise,or guide me. At other times it is when He gives me a blessing and I remember the praises in His Book. Sometimes a friend needs a word from Him to be lovingly shared. It is amazing how when we “hide” His word in our hearts, He brings it to mind at just the right time and place. Thanks for the post!

    Bernadine,

It is absolutely true. We need God’s word deep within us so in those moments of battle and difficulty it springs up to keep us safe and walking in His will. I loved this post. Hugging you my friend. Lynn

Amen to that, Bernadine. Like last night, I was reading Psalm 69 and whoa…there where words that I thought I never read before. But like you said, sometimes we read some words and they totally become clear.

Thank you for the reminder to stay in His Word.

Amen, Bernadine! I was talking about this very thing with my boys the other night. I read them the story of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness and stressed how He knew the Word to use as a weapon against the devil. My youngest son said, “Satan, you just got served!”

It cracked me up. Sword of the Spirit. Gotta have it.
