How Bad Do You Want it?

How bad do you want it? That question came to mind when I was thinking about today’s post. The question was the topic of a sermon my mom once preached. It was a sermon that inspired you to stop standing on the sidelines and pursue your dreams. She stressed that the things you want in life may not necessarily come to you easily. However, you must want it badly enough to go after it no matter what the cost.

My mom’s sermon was based on the story of Zacchaeus. She emphasized the fact that Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus so badly that he did whatever was necessary to ensure that he saw Him. Zacchaeus was very short. He was not able to see over the crowed to get a glimpse of Jesus. He also knew that as a tax collector he was not well liked so he could not depend on the crowd to help him. This may have discouraged some enough to give up at this point, but not Zacchaeus.

He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.

When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”

Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.

Luke 19:3-6 (NLT)

Zacchaeus persisted. He thought outside the box and succeeded in his quest. He could have made excuses as to why he wasn’t able to see Jesus. He was too short, the crowd was too big, they wouldn’t let him through… However, at the end of the day after he’d made his excuses he still wouldn’t have accomplish his goal.

What seemingly impossible dream do you have in mind?

How bad do you want to accomplish it?

Are you willing to think outside the box?

What I love about this scripture is that Zacchaeus got so much more than he expected. He just wanted to see Jesus but Jesus wanted to go to his house. Jesus had more in mind than Zacchaeus ever dreamed. I’m sure that He has a plan for us that exceeds our dreams also so we mustn’t give up!

Yesterday made 11 years since I said my final goodbye to my mom. I always think about her more around this time. Her sermons and words of wisdom still inspire me.

Im going thru withdrawals with my son who’s addiction is severe depression and her ion. It’s killing me but the words of your mom were so encouraging, thank you. I know Jesus loves him and has a purpose but right now it’s so dark and far
