I Choose Door Number……

Have you ever prayed for the Lord to open doors for you to serve Him then when he does you tell the Lord it is not what “YOU” want to do? Some of us may sound more like contestants on Let’s Make a Deal; asking, “Lord could you please give me 3 doors to choose from – and while you’re at it Lord, may all 3 doors be winners!”

I have to admit, recently I have asked the Lord to open the doors of opportunity for me to serve Him, yet when He has opened the doors He has had to literally PUSH me through the doors! I would offer excuse after excuse as to why I do not want to go through the door. Lord, I’m not equipped, I’m too old, I’m too…

Just a few months ago the Lord even had someone literally knock on the door – or in this case call me personally asking me for my help in her weight loss journey! As most of you know, 2 ½ years ago I had weight loss surgery and have lost over 215 lbs. The hospital and nutrition department where I had my surgery has been providing my phone number (with my permission) to individuals in my area who are going to have the surgery (or have had the surgery) and need support. The woman left a message on my phone and I waited 4 days before I returned her call. My husband kept prodding me to call the woman and I would tell him that I do not feel like calling her back. Jim reminded me that I had prayed for the Lord to open the doors for me to show the love of Christ and possibly lead them to Christ. Reluctantly I called the woman; I had the phone on speaker so Jim could hear our conversation. At first the woman sounded discouraged even told me she had almost lost all hope – as the conversation progressed her tone of voice began to change and by the end of our conversation we had arranged a future meeting. After we hung up, Jim said, “Did you notice the change in her demeanor by the end of your conversation? You gave her hope!” We not only met that one time, but she is attending one of the two weekly bible study/weight loss support groups I lead along with 14 other people!

The Lord continues to open doors of opportunity for me to serve Him in our community. At times I say, “Lord, who am I that I should go? I am not equipped to serve in that capacity.” But each time the Lord reminds me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV). “Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—may he equip you with all you need for doing His will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT)

Is the Lord asking you to serve Him and you too are making excuses? Ponder the above bible verses as well as these quotes:
“God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.”
“It’s not about our ability, It’s about our availability!”
