Keep praying

People around the world have been praying for Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol as they were diagnosed with the Ebola virus and then brought to America for treatments. It filled my heart with joy to hear of their release from the hospital last week!

Watching this story unfold has served as a reminder to me of two things. First I was reminded of the importance of continuing in prayer. We all know we are supposed to pray as Christians. But to be honest, sometimes we get weary of praying and not seeing results. Do you ever feel that way? Things don’t happen as fast as we want or answers don’t seem evident to our human eyes, so we lose our fervency. I remember when I read of the diagnosis for Dr. Brantly my heart was so heavy for him and his family, and we began praying. I found myself continually thinking of them and praying for their situation. After a few days I found myself still thinking of them and praying, just not as often like I was in the beginning.

It’s important to continue in prayer, even if it takes a long time to see the answer.Jesus even gave a parable to the disciples in Luke 18:1-8 about being persistent in prayer.

“Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1

Second, it reminded me of the power of prayer. When we do get some wonderful news like this, it is a great reminder and encouragement that there is power in prayer. The outlook was not very optimistic when these were diagnosed. Seeing their healing though has been a powerful reminder to me that God heals and hears our prayers. We can see the results of our prayers as these two have been united with their families. Remember that whether we see the results immediately or have to wait a while, be confident that God does hear all of our prayers.

“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”  I Peter 3:12

What are you praying for today? Don’t give up, keep trusting the Lord and His timing. I hope you will be encouraged today to not give up in your prayers.

“Pray continually.” I Thessalonians 5:17

Have a day of blessings!

So true, Bethany. I too get weary when I don’t see results of my prayer. But we need to continue to pray and not give up. God may not answer our prayer as we hope, but He does answer in His way and His time. Thank you for the reminder to not give up.
