Yes Lord – I Believe

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” (John 11:25-27 ESV)

Just before Easter I had a brief conversation with a couple of ladies I work with. Both of them do not call Jesus their Lord and Savior. One mentioned how much she admired my faith. You see, both of themYes_I Believe grew up attending church; both turned their back on religion. So did I!

You see, believing that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, has nothing to do with religion. Actually believing (living by faith), is the exact opposite of religion. When Jesus spoke about the religious people in His time, His words were not very kind (see Matthew 23).

After the death of Lazarus, Martha ran to Jesus to question Him why He arrived so late. Why He would let her brother die. Jesus asked Martha point-blank if she believe that He was the resurrection and the life. In John 11:27, Martha said that she believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. So do I!

I truly believe that Jesus came to save us from ourselves and that by faith we are made righteous with God. That, whoever believes in Him, will spend eternity in heaven. I do understand that this concept is for some people too simple to understand, but Jesus is the only way to be reconciled with God. Why to I believe that? Because Scripture tells me. Jesus said in John 14:6:

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Attending church does not save us; only faith in Jesus does. However, attending church is our way to thank God for His goodness, and remembering Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross as we partake in the Lord’s Supper.

Lord of mercy and grace. May I always point to the cross and share my belief with love. Lord, help me to share with others, that having faith has nothing to do with religion. May I let your light shine, until You call me home. In the precious name of my Lord and Savior, in the name of Jesus, Amen!

I really enjoyed your blog. You are so right! The “religious” of the world turn so many people off to the joy and beauty of relationship with Christ. Angie Knight shared your blogs with me. May the Lord continue to bless your “ministry of words.”
