My Focus Word for 2015 is: Focus! What’s Yours?

focusDictionary.com:  Verb (with object):   to concentrate:  “to focus one’s thoughts.”

Synonyms:   center, heart, core.

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.  Colossians 3:2 ESV

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”  Isaiah 26:3 ESV

For most of my life I have had been told I need to focus.  It has even become a “joke” in my family.  Whenever my mind wonder’s in too many directions my family will imitate a doctor who would tell me in his Indian dialect, “Michele, you need to focus!”  I would reply as Eliza Doolittle on My Fair Lady, “I can’t!  I just can’t! It’s too hard!”

And so it is for many of us who have ADD (attention deficit disorder).  I try to tell my husband and others that my mind is like a movie projector running short film clips with flashes of 10 second advertisements. Even when I’m exhausted it’s like a broken film that needs changing but no one is there to fix the reel so it keeps spinning and spinning.

So this past week as I have been seeking the Lord’s guidance as to what word or phrase should be my “focus” word for 2015 the Lord kept bringing to my mind the word “focus”.  And I would reply, “Yes, Lord, I am asking for a focus word I need to work on.” He would keep bringing the word “focus” to my mind.  Finally I realized the Lord wants me to work on my focus.  His desire is the one word I have dreaded all my life!  FOCUS!  Oh, Lord, I’m 57 years old – isn’t there an expiration date on “old dogs learning new tricks”?

Okay, Lord, I need to focus on YOU and YOUR WORD –please help me Lord to train my mind to think – concentrate- on one thing at a time – to FOCUS- and not wander.   “But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26 ESV.   Yes, Lord, you can even teach an “old dog” to FOCUS her thoughts – on YOU- “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”  Philippians 4:8 ESV

As I sit here the Lord brings to my mind an old chorus:

Nothing is impossible when you put your trust in God;

Nothing is impossible when you’re trusting in His Word.

Hearken to the voice of God to thee;

“Is there anything too hard to Me?”

Then put your trust in God alone and rest upon His Word;

For ev’rything, O, ev’rything, yes ev’rything is possible with God.

Come on sing along! http://hymnal.calvarybaptistsv.org/297.html

    Well sis, our words are very similar this year. Mine is clarity. Focus was my word in 2010. I continue to pray for you, and now I’ll add the word focus. Love you!

    My mind sometimes wanders as well. I do try to focus, but then all the things that need to get done crowd my mind and my mind starts wandering 🙂
    Thank you for sharing your word for 2015. Mine is surrender.
