Knit Together

I am a knitter. My Aunt Fannie taught me to knit when I was just a little girl. From time to time I do other kinds of handwork, but there is something about knitting that always draws me back. A peace settles over me as the needles pass through the yarn, clicking softly, forming stitches. There is a sense of fulfillment as the stitches begin to form themselves into a pattern and the project takes shape.

As I knit I often think about the ones who discovered that they could create something with needles and yarn. I think too about the ones who designed the patterns and created the different stitches. They are true artists.

There is a Master Artist found in scripture who is also a knitter. He is our Heavenly father. In Psalm 139 He tells us that He is the One who knits us together in our mothers’ womb.

Carefully, stitch upon stitch He forms us according to the unique pattern He Himself has designed. Unlike me, He never drops a stitch or makes a mistake.

Each of us is just exactly who He created us to be. We tend to see all the things we wish were different. He sees His perfect design and loves you just the way you are. He created you with a plan in mind – writing your story before you drew a single breath. You can trust this One who lovingly, tenderly formed you. His plan is for your good.

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous-how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”

Psalm 139:13-16

Linda

It is such a comfort to know that He made me just the way I am. He has planned my life even before I was born. In this I am encouraged for I know He loves me.
