“Spiritual” Electricity

I come from, if not a long line, then an impressive line of electricians. My Dad was an electrician, and my husband is as well. I have seen them both work and marveled at the technical skill it takes to bring power into a home or business. I marveled, yet I learned very little. It’s all just a little above my head.

However, I learned enough to understand that unless everything was wired exactly as it should be, there would be no power. Television sets would sit blankly staring back at us, lights would remain dark, washing machines and dryers would refuse to do their jobs and a host of other essential items would simply not function. Each of them fully equipped to work well, and all the necessary power readily available. But if the connection isn’t made, they remain powerless.

Prayer, I think, is our “spiritual electricity.” Here we are with hearts fully trusting in the God who created the heavens and the earth -the One in whom all power resides. He has told us in His word that this power is available to us and has given us His Holy Spirit through whom that power flows. All we need to do is connect.

A gentle whisper, a heart-felt cry – He hears every voice that calls His name. And He promises He will answer:

“He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.” Psalm 91:15

Yet how often we struggle to make it through on our own, making our plans, seeking advice. It isn’t until we’ve reached the end of our own resources that we turn to the One who’s been waiting all along.  Waiting with everything we need.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.” I John 5: 14-15

Blessings,

Linda

Thank you Linda for the reminder to connect to Him through His word. He indeed is ready for us if we make the time to connect to Him.
