Standing Out

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

I Peter 2:9

Flowers1-edit

Have you ever been around certain people and you could just tell a difference in them? They didn’t have to say anything, you could just feel it. That’s what we’re to be like. As children of God, we’re to be different, peculiar, and set apart. That doesn’t necessarily mean we have to look or act weird, but others should be able to tell a difference in us.

So many times, we try to fit in with the world or secular crowd. We don’t want to be different because we don’t want to endure ridicule. We would rather hide our convictions and hope no one does notice a difference. Friend, God made you in His image and when sin entered the world, that image (us) got tarnished. Praise God for Jesus, who came to give us hope. By the Spirit of God we can be transformed into that image again.

We are royalty because the King is our Father. That is more than we can grasp I think. It may not mean anything to those around us on this earth, but one day it will mean the world to them. Sometimes we look at being different as a bad thing. Being different is a privilege, the way I see it. Being able to have something worth standing out for is phenomenal! God doesn’t want to make us miserable by asking us to be peculiar, but because He knows what is best for us. We should love being able to share with others why we have different convictions than the world. We get to introduce them to our Father and His greatness.

We’re called out of our darkness, out of our sin, and out of our shame. God called you and me into His marvelous light. It’s for Him that we can be a light to others. We should be different than what we once were. When He calls us into His light, it brings out the ugliness of sin so we can become whole through Jesus. We should praise Him because He loves us enough to give us a chance at redemption. How awesome is that! He deserves our praise because He is worthy! We have much for which to be thankful and much for which to praise God.

So next time you feel like hiding your convictions, remember who you were and who God wants you to be. Be peculiar. Be different. Be like Jesus.

Lord, Thank You for calling me out of my dark sin and bringing me into Your light. You are so amazing and loving. Thank You for showing me how I can be different, so others will see You in me. Help me to shine Your light to others. You are so worthy and I give all the praise to You. May I embrace my indifference and may I bear Your name with honor. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
