Today is your day

Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house,… Luke 19:9

The above verse in the story of Zacchaeus popped into my mind recently so I pulled out my Bible and looked it up.  I read and reread the verses that told the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10.

Zacchaeus like many others had heard about Jesus and he wanted to see him.  The crowd was huge and Zacchaeus was short.  However he was determined that he was going to see Jesus. He climbed a tree so he could be in position to get a glimpse of the man he had heard so much about.  His efforts were rewarded and as Jesus passed by he called Zacchaeus by name and invited himself to his house for dinner.

5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”

There was grumbling and dissent in the crowd because Zacchaeus was a tax collector and a dishonest at that. They probably felt that Zacchaeus didn’t deserve, a visit from Jesus. However Jesus knew that Zacchaeus was searching for something that only he could give.

When Jesus decides to visit you it doesn’t matter who tries to stop it or who thinks you don’t deserve it, he decides.

When Jesus visits you he shines a light because he is the light. He exposes, he convicts but above all he loves.  When he visits darkness begins to recede without him saying a word.

8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

Zacchaeus without any prompting promised to give half of his goods to the poor and to make reparation above and beyond to anyone he had cheated, all because Jesus’ loving heart touched Zacchaeus’ searching soul.  That day was Zacchaeus’ day.

Today is your day!

Do you need Jesus to visit you?  You don’t have to run ahead of a crowd or climb up in a tall tree. His ears are always open to hear the cry of the lost, the hurting and the seeking soul.  He knocks tirelessly at the door of your heart and waits anxiously for you to open.  Today salvation has come to your house…

10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

You make some powerful points in the wonderful story of Zacchaeus which I have always loved. I always smile when I hear that Jesus “chose” to visit his house. And I love the little man’s reaction!

Thank you, Bernadine, for praying for our Angie. She text messaged me just before the surgery that she was afraid and I was able to share that my friends are praying. She made it through! Now she is asking prayer for the intense pain.

    Have a wonderful day!
