Unknown Furture – All Knowing God

My unknown future is in the hands of the all-knowing God.

When I read this quote yesterday, I thought how poignant – for in all reality all of our future is unknown -to us.  Only the all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving God knows our future.  But today, as I pray for a very dear friend whose future is literally moment by moment this quote made me think about how I pray for loved ones whose lives are hanging by a thread.

Selfishly I began to pray that the Lord spare her life because I would miss her daily prayers and encouragement that she brings to each of us.  She has endured great suffering through the years – can I be that selfish?  As much as her loved ones would miss her, I must place her unknown future into the loving hands of her all-knowing God.  I need to follow the example of our Lord, Jesus Christ as He prayed in great agony to His Heavenly Father to remove the cup of suffering He will endure shortly.  Jesus, being human and God in the flesh had to anguish over His will and His Father’s will to be done.

So as we pray for our loved ones – let us not try to reason with our Heavenly Father- but let us follow the example of our Lord and Savior and pray, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me(them); yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42 NLT)

Dear gracious, loving Heavenly Father – none of us knows what the future may hold; but we know that You hold our future in Your most capable hands.  Our will is that You would heal our loved ones and take the cup of suffering from them so that they can stay with us a little longer here on earth because we need them with us – we will miss them greatly.  We know that You can heal our loved ones – whether here on earth – or a complete eternal healing in Heaven.    But Father, today -my prayer is for Your will be done – not mine. I humbly pray this in Jesus Precious name, Amen.

I’m typing this through the tears…. comforting words, sis. I’ll be sure to print this out for Denise to read when she’s able.

    Love you.

Thank you sis. I had something else planned to write but God had other plans. My heart has been broken over the suffering our dear friend as been going through. I think of others I know as well who are suffering. All I can do is pray, Lord, thy will be done……

Amen to that, Michele. We don’t always know God’s will for us or our loved ones. But we know that He has the best for us in mind.

I really like the quote you shared.
