Waiting for Perfect Conditions

Have you ever found yourself putting off doing something you really want to do because the conditions are not quite perfect?  You have your to do list that you pull out and peruse ever so often but not much seem to get crossed off because it never seem to be exactly the right time to do it.

I’ve been thinking about that as November draws to a close.  There were a number of things I knew I wanted to accomplish coming into this year, however very few of them have been crossed off my list.

It’s not that I have a fantastical list that is impossible to achieve.  Most of the things on the list simply require me making the effort to get it done.  However, in my mind I have a list of things that should be in place before I even make an attempt.  Simply put, I’m waiting for certain perfect conditions.

4 Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant.
If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NLT)

The above passage in Ecclesiastes stood out to me recently.  It opened my eyes to the fact that conditions may never be perfect and if I wait for it to be I will never do anything.  I’m thankful however that although the year is drawing to a close there is still some time left.  I still achieve of few of those goals if I’d simply stop putting them off because conditions are not the way I think they should be and make an attempt anyway.

I totally understand this one because right now I am looking forward to the new year of 2012 and I surely don’t want to bring 2011 into my 2012, things I did not complete I have just decided to let it go and leave it. If I wait for it to be perfect and all the little things worked out then I will never end up getting it done. What is it about us that we want things to be perfect and line up right before we do things. You know sis it reminds me of how our lives aren’t always line up with Jesus, goes to show we can only do but so much and most of the things we spend most of our time doing really isn’t all that necessary anyway. We end up waisting to much time don’t we?

    Great post!

Oh dear; I have not accomplished one thing on my to-do-list. I so wanted to renovate a couple rooms in our house, but I have failed to even start. Maybe I can still get one done.

Thank you for the reminder to not put things of to wait for the perfect condition.

Great reminder! I usually have goals I make for myself and then do a post from time to time on my blog to “check-up” on myself through the year. I haven’t done that this year and need to. Thanks for the post and happy Thanksgiving!
