What is your weakness?

It seems like in this society nobody wants to let others know their weaknesses. Sometimes we even go to great lengths to hide these weaknesses to keep others from knowing the truth. We all have some, but too often we forget that and think we are the only ones. We fear others may not like us or accept us, so we keep these weaknesses a secret.

Recently, my husband and I were blessed to attend a Steven Curtis Chapman concert. Also at the concert were Laura Story and Jason Gray. Jason Gray shared about one of his weaknesses and how God can use our weaknesses, so I’ve been thinking about this lately.

Think about how many people we read about in the Bible who we would consider weak by our standards, yet they were the ones used by God in mighty ways. Many were not the ones that outsiders might have chosen. They weren’t the strongest or fastest or best speakers. But through their weaknesses God used them to do amazing things for Him.

It is easy to compare ourselves to others and think “I could never do this as well as so and so does. She makes it look so easy.” Instead of trying, we don’t do anything. Many times we think that God cannot use us because of our weaknesses. We let those thoughts hinder us from allowing Him to use us. I believe God can use those weaknesses to bring glory to His name. When we do something for Him, He will bless those efforts and use us to reach others because it will be through HIM that we are able to accomplish the task and clearly not our own doing.

Paul talks about his weaknesses. He says he was given a “thorn in the flesh” and through that weakness God was glorified (2 Corinthians 12:1-10).

“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

What weaknesses do you have? Do you try to hide your weaknesses? How can you allow God to use you to touch others through your weakness?

Have a day of blessings!

Dear Bethany, you are so right on, so many times on Sunday, I put on my outside face and off to church I go because I want to be smiley and happy, happy, but that is so not being correct. Church is where we need to let others see our weaknesses and then they will not be afraid to share their weaknesses, i mean revival could start out in one service if each of us would just take off our public face and say brothers and sisters I need something and I think everyone in the church would hold up their hands that they also need something and GOD CAN SUPPLY THAT SOMETHING, because that something is WE NEED MORE OF HIM IN OUR LIVES, Blessings Gloria

Amen to that, Bethany. It is hard to admit to weaknesses in our lives. But God can, as you stated, use them to further His Kingdom if we are honest with ourselves and to others.
