What’s Your Excuse?

What holds you back?  What keeps you from realizing your dreams and living the life you want to live? I find that it is so easy to make excuses for not doing something.

You don’t want to disturb the status quo.

You don’t want to take the risk that comes along with doing something different.

You’re fearful it won’t work out the way you want it to.

There’s always an excuse for not following your dreams.  However, after a while as you watch the time go by regret sets in and you wonder if there’s still time to accomplish your dreams.

I have seen this happen all too often in my own life. Hence, I started this year with a new determination to cross things off my list and stop finding excuses not to get them done. It hasn’t been easy and as I look at the fact that we’re almost at the end of the fourth month of the year it makes me feel a bit stressed because I’m not where I want to be and I do want this year to be different.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

I want to know at the end of the year that I pressed through and did not give up. So, I’ve been presenting my plans to God, asking His direction and putting in the work to try and achieve the goals that I set. I know from experience that I can achieve nothing on my own strength.  I must rely on Him.  I must have faith and not give up. I must also be sure that I’m in His perfect will because, Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Psalm 127:1

I’d love to know, do you have dreams that you’ve put off for years that you’re now working on? What’s your strategy to ensure that this time is different?

I always seem to have excuses to not forward with my dream. I think that fear is the biggest factor for not stepping out of my comfort zone.

I agree with you, Iris. Fear is an obstacle for me also. I’m trying to push past the fear and complete a long time dream this year.

It’s easy to make our excuses believable or justified. One thing I’m doing this year is reading the Bible thru in a year. I’m not letting anything stand in the way of my daily study. No excuses. Full speed ahead!
