You’ve Got The Power!

When my sister-in-law finally upgraded to a smartphone, she raved to me about one app – the “Notes” app. It thrilled her to record her shopping list on her phone. My jaw dropped. With all the apps out there that do truly amazing things, I was dumbfounded that all she looked forward to was typing in a shopping list.

Then in a restaurant recently, I spotted a boy with his new birthday gift – an iPad. And what was he doing with this valuable gift?

Playing Hangman.

As a child, I played Hangman – using pencil & paper, chalkboard & chalk, dirt & stick. And here was this 21st century kid using one of the most powerful devices currently known to man to play the simplest of games.

But could we be doing exactly the same thing with the gifts that God has given us?

He is Emmanuel – God WITH us.

He declares us to be His temple and so His limitless power dwells WITHIN us.

And yet too often we are content to live a limited life, letting fear, exhaustion, busyness, or just a lack of understanding keep us from appropriating the Power in us.

We settle for less than best and play with dirt & sticks when the Power that created the dirt resides inside us.

God calls us to use the gifts He has so freely given for Kingdom work. He wants us to step out of the boat with our eyes fixed securely on the One who keeps us from sinking. He desires to reveal Himself in us and through us. As a believer, His power within us is greater than an iPad, a smartphone, or any man-made device. Where we are weak, He is strong. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. He can do exceedingly, abundantly beyond anything we can imagine.

Rather than settling for mediocrity, I want to climb out of my comfort zone. I want to tap God’s power and let Him work in and through me.

How about you?

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Susan. I too want to live my life with His power that is within me. Sometimes I forget that I can rest in the assurance that He gives me the strength I need and try to do things in my own strength.

Thanks Iris! I totally agree. When I rely on my own strength, I can get frustrated. I need to continually remember His presence and power and rest in that.
