God is Able to make the Impossible Possible

Able: having sufficient power, intelligence, competence, skill to accomplish action

This picture was taken in Italy. There is something about it that fascinates me. Where has the person come from who traveled on this road? Where is that person going? What lies beyond the archway? In some ways this picture is symbolic of passing from the known into the unknown. From what is certain to what is uncertain. Perhaps even from what seems impossible to the possible.

The holidays bring back memories that sadden me. There are situations that I would change if I could. But it seems impossible. At times I try to hold back the thoughts that bring tears. Other times the tears bring relief. Recently, not once but twice within just a few days God gave me a personal message.

First I heard these words in a prayer, “But You, God, are able to make the impossible possible.” Then in a letter I received a bookmark with a picture that symbolizes my situation and engraved in the leather below the picture were the words, “With God nothing is impossible.” Matthew 19:26 God is so personal – so loving – He knew I needed to be reminded that He knows my situation and that I can trust Him.

I recalled the Scriptures that reveal time after time when God intervened in situations that seemed impossible. We just celebrated the greatest impossibility – a virgin gave birth to a son – Jesus Christ – God in human flesh. Yet the impossibilities did not stop there. Jesus lived a perfect life and sacrificially fulfilled the justice God required to pay the penalty for the sins of mankind. God loved mankind and desired to restore the relationship He intended from the beginning of creation. That which seemed impossible, God made possible. But there is even more! God claimed victory over sin and death when Jesus raised from the dead. God shows us that He is able to make the impossible possible.

God reminded me through the prayer of my friend and the bookmark that though it seems impossible to me, God is able through His work within this situation to bring about a result that is beyond anything I can ask or imagine. Now I press on in peace and with hopeful expectation. I choose to walk through that beautiful arch from the known to the unknown, from the certain to the uncertain, from the impossible to the possible putting my faith in God who is able.

The holidays are over and the situation has not changed. But I thank God for sending me those personal messages. What impossibility do you face? Walk with me. God is able to make the impossible possible!

Ephesians 3:20 (NLT) Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
