Remembering That His Mercy Endures Forever

As I get older, I’ve noticed that my memory isn’t what it use to be. I have to put important appointments in my phone to alert me and my husband is always saying, “I’ve already told you that” whenever I ask him questions.

I don’t  think it’s just an “aging” problem, everyone needs to be reminded of things from time to time.

God knew this about us and that’s why He had His Words written down in a Book and often times, He had it written over and over. God uses His Word, the Bible, to give us much needed reminders.

Have you ever noticed that certain words or phrases are repeated throughout Scripture? God doesn’t want us to forget. One thing He doesn’t want us to forget is to give Him thanks. I was thinking about this the other day, why does God tell us to give thanks? More importantly, why do we need to be reminded to thank Him?

Besides the obvious reasons I came up with (because He loves me, heals me, provides for me), the psalmist reminded me (again) that the reason I need to remember to thank God is because His mercy (His love) endures forever…

(Psalm 118:1) “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His mercy endures forever.”

Further in scripture reading, in Psalm 136, I counted the phrase “for His mercy endures forever” at least 26 times. In fact, each verse is punctuated by this phrase. To “endure” simply means to remain strong, never ending or never failing; no matter what.

How awesome would it be if our life could be punctuated in the same manner?

I’m certain, if after every chapter and verse of our life we could truthfully say, “His mercy endures forever”, there would be no reason to remind ourselves to give God thanks. For it would be embedded into our mind and spirit forever, never to be forgotten …because He is good! So, so VERY good!

BLESSINGS. Laurie
