FAREWELL POST: What Will You Leave Behind

As a young girl, I remember playing the childhood game of “follow the leader”. The rules of the game were quite simple; walk in a single file and do whatever the line leader did. As long as you followed what the leader did, you remained in the game.

Fast forward the game to today. The rules are the same, but the leaders have just changed.

Who we follow can either break us or make us greater than before. It is no secret in the business world that if you want to be a good leader, you must first learn to be a good follower. The same principal holds true in the life of a Believer. Paul tells us this in chapter 2 of Titus…

”In everything, set them an example by doing what is good…” (Titus 2:7)

What do you think of when you hear the word “leader”? Many would think of a teacher or a CEO of a company or the President of the United States. While all of these are leaders who lead groups of people; you and I are also leaders. You may not be the head of a company but like the childhood game I mentioned, there is always someone who will follow you.

Paul lays down the groundwork for how all Christians should lead in the book of Titus…lead by example! The best way to be an example for what is good is to live a life that is following Christ. When people see Christ in us, they will be more willing to follow.

For eleven years, I have been blessed and honored to be a contributing writer on this Christian Devotional site. Shortly after Iris Nelson added me to the writing team, she asked me to work alongside her as a site administrator and manage the writing calendar for the team, which I have faithfully done for nearly ten years.

Recently, after much prayer and consideration, it was decided that it was time for Laced with Grace to close it’s doors. Writers are exploring new writing opportunities all of the time and the site administration decided it was time for something new for everyone. What a wonderful season for me here at Laced with Grace and as I contemplated this final post, I asked myself what difference, if any, have I made these past 11 years? What will I leave behind?

Since December 19, 2008, I have shared 312 devotions with the readers of Laced with Grace. It has always been my desire and my prayer to share encouragement with the readers as well as my testimony of God’s Grace and how God’s Word is relative to our circumstances. Over the years of writing devotions, I have gained some followers and with this came a great responsibility to lead with the words I penned so that those who would read them would come to know Christ.

It is my prayer, as we all go on different paths, that we will all continue to follow Christ in such a way that others would be led to Him as we Follow the Leader. With Christ as our Leader and our example, may we leave no-one behind.

Thank you for your listening ear and your hand of friendship!

BLESSINGS. Laurie
