An Ordinary Woman

I discovered Google Maps.

Of course when you find this nifty online gadget, the first place you have to look up is your house. See the red dot? That is my home. We are looking at it from outer space. Perhaps this is what it is like when God looks down upon our world. It seems sorta small don’t you think?

Here I am in the United States. Looks like God is coming closer.

Here we are on the west coast of America.

That’s my town.

No one can hide from Google Maps….

Finally, we arrive here at my home.

This is the actual photo that pops up from Google, Street View. I mean really. There must be Google dudes running all over this country snapping photos of our neighborhoods. I can’t tell you how glad I am that I was not standing outside my house clad in my PJ’s picking up the newspaper when they drove by. Pj’s and messy hair for all the world to see. Shudder!

Watching the views change as the map zoomed in from outer space to my garage door is kinda freaky. I wonder if that’s what it’s like when God looks upon the earth. When God has a BIG assignment, do you think He searches the earth zooming to and fro looking for the one person who will say, “yes?”

Do you think He looks upon our planet trying to pick one ordinary woman in who He could assign an extraordinary task? I know He does because He picked Mary.

He picked Mary because she was a woman who yielded her entire heart to God’s will. God knew she would say yes – without hesitation. He picked Mary knowing she would obey even if an out of wedlock pregnancy shattered her life’s plans and dreams. He picked Mary because throughout her entire life she said, “yes” to the little things.

When God wants to use someone for something special, He picks ordinary people and He picks those who said, “yes” to the small stuff.

Obedience.

Today, God is asking you and me. “Have you said yes to the little things I have asked?”

When we obey God’s word He is then likely to bring about bigger things and finally something profoundly BIG, because He knows we will say, “yes” – without hesitation.

Because we know, nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).

God will not let me leave this devotion today without asking you to think about the one area in your life He is calling into obedience. God is asking me and asking you to release this one “thing” to Him today, forever. He is calling both of us to a Bigger place.

Next year God has BIG plans for you and for me but today He is requiring our obedience. Say, “YES.”

I believe that right now the Lord is asking me to say yes to trusting Him. It may sound odd coming from a Christian woman. But it seems that as I’m going through a particular distressing time, fear grips me. And yet, God’s Word says I am to trust Him …even though I don’t know what will happen. He is trustworthy but I have to make the free will choice to take Him at His Word. Today, I choose to trust Him and …I say YES, LORD!

Great thoughts Lynn. I was thinking as I was looking at your maps that God also knows exactly where we are at! There is nothing that escapes Him and if we would just learn to trust Him – He will lead us. -Blessings, Laurie

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed this today. I especially like this…

I like that! Great post Lynn. Obedience is still sometimes an issue for me but day by day He’s working on me.

Oh my! I haven’t Googled Mapped (Earthed) in a couple of years! I can’t believe they now have street view! It would be pretty amazing if they could do that at my house as I live in the mountains and I’m in the forest!

Thank you for your key word of obedience. It’s seems to be the word of the day between me and the Lord today. It keeps popping up in things I’m reading, in my talks with the Lord. I need to press in closer and answer, “Yes, Lord?”.

God bless you, Lynn. I read this “God will not let me leave this devotion today without asking you to think about the one area in your life He is calling into obedience. God is asking me and asking you to release this one “thing” to Him today, forever. He is calling both of us to a Bigger place.” and I know how fitting it is that I didn’t read it until a day after you posted it because yesterday I simply wasn’t ready.

    mmmm….conviction.

I think He’s simply asking me to focus. Moment by moment. With Him at the helm. I have so many details floating around my noggin most of the time, and especially at this time of year. Really, though, other than our celebration, why should this time of year be any different. I believe. I love Him. And to abide in Him, I need to focus and obey.

    Thanks, friend. xxxooo

Beautiful, Lynn! I’ve been thinking about the Star of Bethlehem, and how insignificant we are by comparison to the myriads and myriads of points of light in the heavenly sky. It’s remarkable that God zoomed in and picked Mary to be his special handmaiden… and YES, we can choose to be obedient just like her.

I like your house! Is that a double topiary tree I see? Love ’em!

Oh my! I did google maps once of my house, but it was just a street view of rooftops…didn’t show much else.

I love how you worked this into a Bible message for us! You are so gifted.
