Refreshed

I’ve been exercising regularly now for the past several months with my husband.  It doesn’t take long into our workout before we’re both covered in sweat and each one is looking at the other wondering why didn’t you bring down some water?  Inevitably we’ll have to take a quick break to get that hydration we so desperately need before we can continue working out our bodies.

When we’re working hard, water isn’t just an option, it’s a necessity.  I can’t imagine saying that I was too busy excercising to stop and get water.  Dehidration not only makes it hard to continue working at an intense pace, but it’s downright dangerous.  There’s been a few times when we’ve been on long hikes in the mountains when one person has gotten overheated and the lack of water became scary.

Have you ever noticed how animals don’t need to be told to drink 8 glasses of water a day?  They follow their internal instincts and seek out water regularly.  They don’t have bottles stashed everywhere they go, so they are constantly on the lookout for the next source of water.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?  Psalm 42:1-2

How is it that I would not deny my body the water it thirsts for, but I willingly deny my soul the Living Water I’m thirsting for?  “I’m too busy to sit down and pray.  I don’t have time for reading God’s word today.”  And my soul gets parched from the lack of water.

This past weekend, at a ladies’ retreat, I had the opportunity to refresh my weary soul and to fill up on Living Water.  But, it reminded me that I need to be on the lookout for streams of water EVERY DAY.  I need to come and drink from the water of the Word and fill up on His Presence regularly if I don’t want to dry out.

wonderful devotion today. Last night my Pastor preached about having NEW oil and your devo reminded me of the very point he was making…none of us would continue to drink from “old” water, when we are thirsty – we crave fresh water so should we in our spirit, but many of us are running on old cups of living water (the experience we had with the Lord a week ago, a month ago or even a year ago) and DAILY we need to be renewed and refreshed with His pouring! Awesome timing that you would write about this right after my Pastor preached about it. God bless.
