Scatterbrained and Glad I Am!

Some of you may know that I have been a leader of a woman’s Bible study for years. Every fall I marvel at how God hand selects the women who join me. This year, for the first time, I am going to have a neighborhood study in my home around my kitchen table. I am psyched!!

Several weeks ago I found a delightful book for our study. I ordered the books, Living Life On Purpose by Lysa Ter Keurst. When they arrived last week, I couldn’t wait to get them into the hands of the women.

Okay, this is where the story becomes a goofy “Lynn story” and where it completely becomes a miracle.

I get in my car with MapQuest directions, journals, and books. I run around town dropping off the study along with a syllabus and a welcome. All is well.

Until….. Three days later Brandi zings me an email: Lynn, if you don’t have time to deliver my book, could I come by and pick it up?

I puzzle….. and think…. I know I dropped of Brandi’s book three days ago….. Then I puzzle some more……MapQuest directions have never failed me in the past. Okay, if I didn’t leave the book and journal at Brandi’s home, where did I leave them?

I telephone Brandi. “Brandi, I left your book on your doorstep three days ago.” Then I confirm her address.

“Lynn, my address doesn’t end with a one it ends with a two. You left the book across the street.” I wither. It is so like me to be scatterbrained and type the wrong address into MapQuest.

Brandi went on, “I am puzzled, however, because my neighbor’s know me. They would have recognized my name on the syllabus and brought it to me.”

“Well, perhaps it is still sitting out front,” I reason. “Can you check and let me know? I have one book left and I will bring it to you.”

Brandi telephoned me again about 30 minutes later. I could hear tears in her voice. “Oh, Lynn, you won’t believe what just happened. My neighbor met me at the door with the book in her hand. She started to tear up as she told me she found the book three days ago.”

“My neighbor said she has been struggling in life and calling out to God for help. When she found the book, she knew God had sent it.”

“She said she has been rushing to read through it before returning it to me.” Brandi was choking on her words.

‘Brandi,” I whispered, “I am bringing the last book to you. Give it to her because it IS from God.” Then I choked up.

God used my carelessness to persue a woman who called out to Him. How many times does God take our blunders, mistakes, missteps, and work with them? He works with us, imperfect and scatterbrained (at least I am) to reach a world in need. Why?

He is in love with us.

Lord I marvel at Your ways. I marvel at your quiet pursuit of a lost world. I marvel how You go to amazing lengths to touch someone who is calling out to You. I am undone to realize You desire to work through us, the broken, the imperfect, the scatterbrained, to reach someone in pain and give hope. Thank you, In Jesus name, Amen.

I wish every one of you could sit with me around my kitchen table this fall. What fun we would have. One day, in the not so distant future, we WILL sit together in heaven and retell the many stories of God at work in our lives and the lives of others. I am psyched and looking forward to that day!

Oh how preciouse is the LORD GOD we serve, that is amazing, as soon as I started reading this post, and saw that you recieved the call from the friend in that she didnt get the book yet, I knew right away what had been done, and in that split second before I finished reading the story I knew I knew something was going to be done by the LORD. To finish reading this post, brought tears to my eyes in the AWESOMENESS of how we “mortals” truly do not understand the Power of GOD and it is true, He will move heaven and earth to rescue us when we fall. Bless YOU, Bless Your friend and GOD BLESS the Neighbor whose hands it was meant to fall in to.

God Bless You for such a word this morning. God is so in love with us and I am so in love with Him and I want to know Him more deeply than ever. He also is so loving and forgiving and turns our mistakes so easily into blessings.

    Bless You!

That brought a tear to my eye! I have been praying about starting a Women’s bible study here in my home, and have been praying about how to go about inviting the women over (I know most of them, but not many of them well.) That was so inspiring. It is so wonderfully awesome how our God works.
