Choices

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6

      Life is a short walk with many steps, many choices. Every time we place a foot down we choose to go in that particular direction. Each choice becomes a stepping stone behind us on a path leading to our futures. Those places where our feet meet the ground are cemented into the story of our lives. Wherever we go, choices pave the way. Choices walk through open doors, and choices turn away.

Have you ended up in this spot wondering where to go from here? Did you get here by trusting in the Lord? He promises to direct your path if you trust in Him and not yourself.

      The more steps I have taken, the less I now want to waste. I’ve paved behind me a path that is not straight. It weaves and bends and circles around itself. In places it wanders off as though lost, and then turns back. My feet have slowed, have tired. I’ve changed shoes; traded in heels for flats. The walk continues but the pace has changed. The impression left in the pavement has become deeper. At times I’ve stopped to write something down before the cement dried; an arrow here and there for anyone following behind, and often too many words.

      But looking back along the winding path, I see now that there was only ever one thing important enough to stop and write. Only one thing I want others to read in the cement of my life, and that is the name of Jesus. I want those following behind to see that He keeps His promises. When we choose to trust Him and not ourselves He will direct our paths. Choices will surely finish what they have started – to the end of the short walk.

What will you choose today? Do you trust Him to lead you?

    My path seems to be similar to yours. I too have slowed. I will trust Him with my future, because I know He has the best in mind for me.
