Chasing The Wind

On Thursday, Colorado winds blew making my windows whistle again. It was cold and gloomy all day. What happened to spring? I thought. The sound of wind reminded me of another storm from winter.
During that particular snowstorm, I sat mesmerized as I watched big, fluffy snowflakes dance and spin, go high and low, and then disappear over my rooftop. Have you ever seen this? It’s amazing. Those flakes were busy! Going up and down, north, then east, then southwest, then west, and then north again.
I love this visual of the wind because normally wind is invisible. Solomon wrote about wind in Ecclesiastes. He had the best of everything and yet he said nine times that everything was meaningless, “a chasing after the wind.”
Confession: “Hi, my name is Tiffany. I’m a wind chaser.” I’m windblown, tired, thirsty, and my eyes burn. I’ve chased wind most of my life. Winds like:
· the approval of others, to be liked
· a firm and fit body
· a perfectly decorated and clean home
· just the right outfit with just the right hairdo
· a successful writing and speaking ministry
· blog comments
· to be the perfect mom with perfect kids
· to be a perfect wife
My list could go on, but you get the picture. See why I’m so parched? I need a break. I need to stop. Sit and rest and allow God to be the wind I chase.

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
Lord, Forgive me for chasing wind. It’s not wrong to want to be a good mom, wife, or friend. It’s not wrong to want a clean house, a ministry, or decent clothes, but sometimes I want those things more than I want you. Your word says to seek first your kingdom and righteous. I confess I’ve don’t always put our relationship first. Refresh me, I’m thirsty. I want more of you. More of your presence, your peace and passion. I don’t want to live a meaningless life. I want to make a difference for you. Breathe new life into me. Let me soar on your wings and feel the wind from the heights of your love. I love you, Jesus. Amen

Timely post for me Tiffany. I just got off the phone with my sister a few minutes ago and we were discussing some of these very same things. I too sometimes need to simply “sit and rest and allow God to be the wind I chase.”

This was timely for me too. I just finished reading how Saul did not wait for Samuel as instructed. He lost the kingdom for not waiting. I confess I chase after the wind. Your list is my list. Lord, please forgive me for chase after the wind. Lord, i pray that I chase after You. I agree with the prayer Tiffany lifted up to You. That’s my prayer too Lord. In Jesus name Amen.

I loved your devotional. You did an awesome job.
It’s easy to chase after those things that we think will make us feel desired, wanted, needed, acceptable. But they never really satisfy. I am so grateful that Papa doesn’t allow them to fill me up….cause it takes me to Him.

Brilliant…. A few of this flakes hit home with me. Ouch. I needed this. Well done!
Oh you are so right Tiffany. We want to be successful in everything we do. We want to be liked – we always want to be cheery (for the most part). But we forget WHO can gives us the strength and joy that comes from within. I have learned over the years that only ONE can give me all the above. It is so true – if we fix our eyes on Him, everything else will be added to it.

I think you speak for so many of us Tiffany. I don’t know why it is so difficult to break free of the “approval” trap. Perhaps we feel better about ourselves if we feel we’ve done something to earn approval.

WOW!!!! How awesome. I never thought of myself that way however there are still a few things in my life I am chasing. Sometimes I run after them faster that God would like for me to. Thank you.
