During Times Of Weakness

One of my favorite stories in the bible is how Aaron came to help Moses during Moses’ time of insecurity and doubt. The Lord was sending Moses to rescue the Israelites, but Moses did not feel up to the task. Instead of allowing Aaron to complete the task by himself, God allowed Aaron to help Moses for a season.

Exodus 4:10-14

10 But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” 11 Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” 13 But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” 14 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said, “Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

Four Things I see In This Story:

1. The Lord was not pleased with Moses but did not give up on him.
2. Aaron was willing to step in and help Moses.
3. Aaron began leading, but as Moses gained more courage he knew when to step aside also.
4. God still was able to work through Moses to accomplish His plan.

Christian friendships bring us strength when we are weak. Sometimes one who is stronger in one area will step in and help you lead a group or teach you how to teach, until you are strong enough to accomplish the task yourself. Often times we—especially women—need Christian friendships to help us see things clearly. We can become blinded by our own insecurities.

The key is to keep growing. Allow others to support you in your time of need, but continue to grow in your own relationship also. Lean on God for direction not the one who is helping.  The good news is God’s plans with not be thwarted by our own insecurities and He is there to walk every step of the way with us.

Is there someone today you can reach out to support? Or maybe you are beginning a new task and you would love someone to help you?

What I have found in my own life is that it is often a different Christian friend who helps me during different seasons.  God sends the right person to help during the right situation.

Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing us to see the relationship between Aaron and Moses.  Thank you showing us that even though Moses struggled with insecurity and weakness you were still able to use him in a might way.  May it be so in my own life.  Amen.

Amen to that, Lori. I really like the story of Moses and Aaron; it shows me that God can use anyone in a mighty way.
I am grateful for the Christian friendships I have in my life.

Good application of this story. Haven’t thought of this in a mentoring context before, but that’s sort of what Aaron was doing for Moses, without them really even thinking of it. If nothing else, Aaron provide some support for Moses’ insecurity. Good post.

    Lori, this is good!

How thankful I am that God doesn’t give up on us, despite our insecurities and doubts. He is patient with us but still moves us out of our comfort zone where He is our safety. When we come to the end of ourselves, we run to Him. And that’s right where He wants us to be.

I’m also so thankful that the Lord places other Christians in our lives to encourage and motivate us to keep on. You’ve been a friend to me and I thank you for that.

    Love you,
    Debbie

I love this Lori. The Lord brings others into our lives to love and encourage us. We each bring something unique and special into a relationship.

I have often wondered about Moses and Aaron. Did Moses rub shoulders with his brother? Or did he know him from afar as he grew up in the palace? It always seems so amazing the way their partnership fit so well. God-ordained, right?

    Very interesting post.
