Hiding God’s Word in 2013

A new year feels like a nice clean fresh piece of paper waiting to be filled. What will the page look like on December 31, 2013? What will fill up your paper this year?  Each year I make a list of goals for the year which I post to my blog.

I feel that scripture memorization is very important.  Over the past few years I have used various ideas for memorizing from things I have found on blogs.  A couple years I have joined with the Beth Moore Siesta’s at The LPM Blog, memorizing a new scripture of my own choosing every couple of weeks.  Last year I joined with Cindy Bultema in her A-Z Challenge with a verse for each letter of the alphabet.

This year I am trying something different.  A while back I read Colossians 3.  I reread it over and over and felt there was so much in it.  I decided to memorize the entire chapter.  I started with the first verse this week.  “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” (Colossians 3:1)

Sometimes we think as adults it is too hard to memorize things and don’t put in the effort.  However, memorizing scripture is so important and very much worth the effort.  We need to hide God’s Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11).  There are many tips that can help make memorization easier.  One thing I do is write the verse in an index card sized spiral.  This is easy to carry around so you can keep the verse in front of you often.

Do you memorize scripture?  What method do you use?  Do you have any tips that make memorizing easier?  I challenge  you to make it a goal to memorize scripture in 2013.

Have a day of blessings!

It used to be a regular habit of mine to memorize Scripture. I memorized Psalm 19, Romans 12 and others. However, as I get older it does get harder. Thank you for reminding me Bethany. I do believe it is so important to hide God’s Word in our hearts. You always set a beautiful example for Caleb too. And I find that Scriptures I memorize come back to me just when I need them. How like our God, right?

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

Its always been funny to me how I can memorize ingredients to my favorite recipe, or the lyrics to my favorite song but always found memorizing scripture too difficult. Memorizing scripture with my kids always had to be fun, so if you are having a hard time memorizing scripture…I would say make it fun. Great reminder of how to start the year off right Bethany! 🙂

I try to memorize Scripture each month. That is why I create the Scripture desktop each month. I am on the computer all day long, so I see the verse every day.

It is good to memorize His Word so that in troubled times we have a ‘weapon’.
