New Every Morning

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

Many days when I lay my head down to sleep I have regrets. I think about the day as it unfolded and how I reacted to situations that came my way. Some nights I have more regrets than others and that upsets me. Have you been there? Do you cringe at how you reacted during the day to certain situations? Either your children disobeyed for the hundredth time or your husband didn’t take the trash out again. So you just lost it. You either screamed or said hurtful things to your loved ones. You let your emotions get ahead of your mouth.

I know all too well this scenario. I’m not perfect and I’m not very patient. I really strive to be patient, but more than not, I’m impatient. Then, I think about how patient God is with me and it breaks my heart. How can I be so impatient with others when my Father is so long-suffering towards me?

Thankfully, we don’t have to hold onto that regret. Each morning we wake up, we have a new slate to start off the day. We can ask forgiveness from God and ask Him to help us the next day. His mercies are new every morning. That is astounding. The God of the universe gives me His mercy every day. Actually, He withholds from me what I truly deserve, which is harsh punishment and eternity in Hell. He extends His grace and mercy to me in the present and for the future.

Sunrise--edit

When I really blow it, I can come to my Father and repent of my selfishness. It’s so comforting to know that He will forgive me when I come to Him. He loves me so much and He wants me to get better at dying to my sinfulness each day when He allows the mishaps in life. What a God! When we are cursing the interruptions or mishaps, He is shaping and molding us. What a blessing it is to have a God that loves us like that. His mercy endures forever!

He doesn’t consume us with fire, but He refines us with the fire. He is faithful to us every day, whether we deserve it or not. How can we not love Him? Take heart, my friend, that when you mess up big time, God is there and He wants to forgive you. He wants to extend His mercy to you and He wants you to start over fresh. He wants to see us extend that same compassion towards others whether they deserve it or not. Don’t fret, God is ready and willing to give us what we don’t deserve.

Lord, You are so merciful towards me. Thank You for Your mercy that does not run out. It goes on forever. You extend it to me on a daily basis. How rich You are in compassion towards Your children. May I never forget how much You love me and desire that I walk in righteousness and Your mercy. May I extend the mercy You give me to others no matter what. May I be compassionate towards those who may hurt or wrong me. Thank You again for Your faithfulness, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
