No room for improvement

Yesterday I was thinking about how much the world has changed since I was a child. I remember when my mother got her first microwave. And how excited my brother and I were when we got “Pong” for the television. And how much I loved the portable 8-track player I had in college.

My children have never known a world without personal computers. Now everyone watches movies on their net books and plays intricate games on their smart phones. Photography has gone digital and cars can park themselves.

Don’t get me wrong, I love technology. I have a Facebook profile, a website, and make use of the vast amount of Bible study resources on the internet. But things change faster than I can keep up. Just when I think I’ve mastered the newest thing out there, something bigger, faster, and better has come along. For instance, I got an I-Pad for Christmas and the new one came on in February.

This kind of change is inevitable. As we humans learn from past accomplishments, we will continue to produce new products and ideas, because the previous ones were not perfect. There is always room for improvement.

But that is not true of God. Malachi 3:6 reads, “I the LORD do not change” (NIV). God does not change because there is no room for improvement. God is wholly holy. He does not need to be improved, tweaked, or remodeled. God is perfect as He is (Matt 5:48).

Here are a few ways the Bible says God’s perfection is demonstrated:

  • God’s works are perfect. Deut 32:4
  • God’s way is perfect. 2 Sam 22:31
  • God’s Word is perfect. Ps 19:7
  • God is perfectly faithful. Isaiah 25:1
  • God’s will is perfect. Rom 12:2

Let’s praise God today for His perfection! Share with us ways you have experienced God’s perfection in your own life.

Have a blessed day!

Kathy

Good word Kathy!! I like how you put that, “God does not change because there is no room for improvement.” I think sometimes we forget who we are dealing with. I love to be able to use technology and it makes study quite nice, but I fear often that the benefits may not be worth the costs.

Eight tracks!! Ahhh! Some things are better off forgotten! Ha ha! But, I too, am praising God that He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. We can always count on his steadfastness! If He changed with the times, life would be more than confusing!

    Blessings, Joan

You are right Kathy; every time you turn around a model is replaced with the newest technology.

Thank you Lord for being perfect at all times and need no improvement. I thank you for your steadfast love.
