Waiting

The calendar page flips to autumn. We wait expectantly for the the changing of the season, but the temperatures still climb into the nineties and the sun burns hot in a brilliant blue sky. Change comes gradually here in south Texas – summer melting slowly into fall.

We are weary of the heat, praying for a cool breeze. Further north the change has come in a burst of brilliant of color. We look at the pictures with longing. We hear of chilly days, refreshing walks, the first fires warming cozy living rooms and sigh as we wipe our brows.

Sure there are signs that change is coming. Pumpkins spill out of bins in the grocery store, cheerful little scarecrows decorate front porches and evening comes a bit earlier. But the days continue to dress in summer garb, and we begin to wonder if He has somehow forgotten.

Then one day, in the midst of heat and sunshine, it comes. The wind sweeps down from the north. It is as though someone has flipped the switch of a giant fan. It whips around us, bending branches low. The temperature drops twenty degrees in what seems an instant, and we remember.

He never changes. Season will follow season just as God has promised. The waiting clouds our vision and dims our memory. We forget the times He has proven true – the times He has done exactly what He said He would do. He is a trustworthy Father who always keeps His promises.

“But for You, O Lord, do I wait; O Lord my God who will answer.”   Psalm 38:15

Blessings,

Linda

You sound like I have sounded for years while we lived in California’s Central Valley! We always would joke that Autumn was skipped entirely. It seemed like we went from the melting 110 degrees of summer to the 32’s of winter! There was no in between in seemed! But, God is always on time I have discovered. Whether it be in the Spring, summer, fleeting autumn or winter.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful imagery today!

It too long for the cooler weather. I did have a brief break when I was in Germany in August. Unfortunately I had to come back to the 110 degrees of the AZ desert.
But like you said, our Heavenly Father never forgets; His timing is always perfect. May we patiently wait on His timing.

Beautifully written. I’m in the south and today we have a nice breeze thanks to a wicked storm that came thru here last night. I love the changing of seasons, it reminds me of how God sees the beauty in putting off the old and putting on the new. 🙂
