Step by step
Two weeks ago we thought everything was fine. We were waiting with much excitement for my appointment on Friday morning to hear our new baby’s heartbeat for the first time. We had it all planned out for our 8 year old Caleb to share our news after school with family members and friends. I also had the picture ready to use on Facebook to make our announcement.
Two weeks ago we thought everything was fine. And then Friday came and the nurse couldn’t find the heartbeat. She even thought she had at first, but it was just my racing heart. An ultrasound and blood work confirmed that we were having another miscarriage.
It’s only been two weeks, and I know the healing process takes time. Our son led the song “Step by Step” Sunday night at church. I have been remembering this phrase this week. We’ve been through this previously….ten years ago actually when we were expecting our first child. I know from that experience that this pain will ease but that my heart will always have the longing for these two I never got to meet or hold on earth. I also know it is not going to be all better tomorrow or next week. I have found that as I have tried to do some of my normal activities I need to remember to take things one step at a time.
I would like to encourage you in whatever you are facing to remember to take things step by step as well. Don’t expect things to be better or “normal” automatically. Healing takes time. Whether you are healing physically, working to repair a relationship, or mourning a loss, remember to not try to rush through the process even though it seems to be going slowly. God will be with you and see you through as you seek Him through your pain. Let Him draw you closer to Himself as you lean on Him to get through the heartache. We need to have faith that we can be healed because of the sacrifice paid for us by God’s Son. Claim the promise of healing that He gives us in His Word.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:4, 5
It’s only been two weeks, and I am beginning to see glimpses of healing of my hurting heart.
- God Remains
- Restore and Renew
Amen, amen.
PLEASE KNOW I CARE, AM PRAYING FOR YOU. I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, LOVE YOU.
I am so sorry, sweet Bethany. You are right; healing takes time. Sometimes I do not understand God’s plan, but I do know that He is sovereign.
Please know what I will pray for you and your healing.
I know you are crushed Bethany and my heart goes out to you. It does take time for healing. Don’t bury that pain but pour out your heart to the Lord. In time, He will bring healing. I love how God used your son Caleb’s song to help you step by step.
Sending you a hug today,
Debbie
