I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge

Recently something happened in our household that sent me running to my room crying. Failed expectations, feelings of failure as a parent on my end, and disappointment towards another person. I fell straight to my knees crying out to God. “Father how could this person behave like that?” I cried out, “ and if I have any sin that brought this on please forgive me.”

I was weary from emotion, my husband was a comfort but I still harbored a broken heart. As I was falling asleep on a tear stained pillow I prayed, “Father get me up in the morning I need to spend time with you, I need your guidance and comfort.”

The Lord was faithful and I was up before anyone in the house. I know he desires to spend time with me even more than I desire Him. I did not want to do my normal bible study, I just wanted the Lord to speak to me.

He led me straight to Psalms 73:26, 28

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever!”

I was crying out to God how my heart was broken and how weak I felt. He gently reminded me that I do not possess strength for the difficult times, God is the strength for a weary heart.

“But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.”

When things happen that send us into a tail spin, God is our refuge. He gently reminds us to run to Him first.

As we enter a new week, our flesh or heart may fail, but remember God is the strength of our heart; he is our refuge. It is good to be near the Lord. The closer we are the less distance we have to run into His arms.

Yes, it is good to be near the Lord. Thank you Father for being there to wipe away the tears, to provide comfort and to reaffirm my dependence on you for all things. Father you love my kids more then I do, I ask for wisdom and perseverance as a mother. Thank you for being my refuge.
Amen

“The closer we are the less distance we have to run into His arms.” – I love how you put this. If we can remain close to God at all times, in the difficult times we don’t have far to go to “find” Him. Great thoughts, Laurel.

I just love it when we are down and need to read His Word — He has always the perfect verses for us to meditate on.
I pray that the situation will be resolved soon, my sweet friend.

    Blessings to you and yours.

I know what you mean Laurel……it’s such a comfort to know He wants to spend time with us even when we are broken hearted! I had a similar experience this weekend and He just affirmed that He wanted to spend time with me…..to heal my heart……it was such a comfort!
    Blessings on your day!

    Oh Laurel,

I have been right there with you, rencently. I cringe thinking of the mistakes I have made with my children.

Lord, Jesus, I bring Laurel befor you today. Bring to her mind and heart all of the good in her character that she is passing along to her children. Show her that nothing is more important than her love for her family. Give her wisdome each day and protect her and her family form the evil one. In your Holy and precious name, Amen.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 NLT
I have found myself in that very tail spin you spoke of. It hurts. It is a pain that feels worse than any other experienced. For whatever the reason, it is an agony that causes us to fall on our faces before our King. And with His mighty hand, He reaches down and lifts us up and holds us close to His chest. There we are healed, restored and made new again.
Although I have never met you, I feel a closeness in spirit from the Lord and will lift you up in prayer. May the Lord of our hearts touch your life to day with His peace and strength.
    Be blessed…
