Maybe too simple!

Today LACED WITH GRACE welcomes TWINKLE MOM as our guest writer. You can find her over at her personal blog SUNFLOWER FAITH also.

1 Unless the LORD builds the house,

They labor in vain who build it;

Unless the LORD guards the city,

The watchman stays awake in vain.

2 It is vain for you to rise up early,

To sit up late,

To eat the bread of sorrows;

For so He gives His beloved sleep.

(Psalm 127:1-2, New King James Version)

I watched a commercial where everyone in the family were in different rooms on the computer, playing video games. The dad turned off the electricity in the entire house and everyone gathered outside for a family meal and it had me thinking,”At what point did life become more complicated then it really needed to be?”. Is it possible, sometimes, that what is supposed to make our lives convenient can also make our lives more inconvenient?

There are seasons when I don’t feel the need to catch up on social media and I just take blogging sabbaticals. I embraced the needed rest from the busyness and distractions that a growing, technologically advanced world has grown around us and I noticed something. How often do we fill our lives with too much busyness that instead of focusing, we are more distracted then ever?

A quote from Matthew Henry Commentary leaped out at me regarding Psalms 127:1-2,”Our care must be to keep ourselves in the love of God; then we may be easy, whether we have little or much of this world.”

I’m a simple person.

Sometimes the very fact of not complicating life, isn’t by looking for the latest gadgets or popular know hows, but simply, by just looking to God and scaling back, willingly and simply.

Simple.

Maybe too simple.

What’s the use of having everything if it makes us too tired or too distracted to serve Him directly? Summer vacations were suppose to be times to wind down, to recharge, but instead, around us, families take high stress vacations that leave them more tired when they get home then before they left for the vacation themselves.

Do we do the same when we approach Him?

We pile on the books and studies and set out with the best intentions and in the process, we build this amazing grand foundation, but instead of less work, we end up creating more work that requires more time and maintenance. And in the whole process of things, instead of thinking more and more about Him, we find ourselves consumed with allocating time for this and that and “wait, maybe this will keep us on our toes”, only to add more to one more thing to take care of and manage. Whew, is it time for a vacation from the vacation that was suppose to give us rest from the actual work?

How about we just trim out everything and focus on Him….just Him and give it to Him, just Him and focus just on that.

At one time, we had to wait for the letter to come when corresponding with others and it wasn’t a matter of making a phone call, anytime, anywhere, but actually having to find a phone. If we weren’t able to find a phone, actually either waiting till we stumble upon one or make it to our destination or home.

Now…everything happens…well…now.

What are we building when we are done and for whom?

Sometimes, it just helps to turn off everything and just scale back and refocus and just breathe.

“Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.”~Psalms 127:1 NKJV

I’m simple….maybe too simple.

For me, its not about being in a hurry.

It’s about taking the time, making the investment and just living now….not for tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to happen with or without me, but our Father in Heaven, wow…He is forever….not tomorrow…not just today, but right now.

So why hurry?

Why rush?

Why over complicated when it’s as simple as sitting down, with Him, with His Word, simple….maybe too simple. Thankfully….He is in no hurry. He’s there….He’s always there….so why hurry….it’s really that simple.

    Me too! I am also simple and get a little overwhelmed with all of the things that go on these days. I love your thoughts here and for me too, it is about just remaining aware of what really is helpful and what isn’t…. great post.

    This reminded me of a post I recently wrote called, “Slow Down This Summer.” It is so difficult to not “hurry,” isn’t it? I agree with you. I have enjoyed the “enforced quietness” when our electricity has gone out. We sit by the light of our lanterns and go to bed when it gets dark. Simpler times. Time to think about the Word and the Lord.
    Blessings,
    Wendy

    Amen to that; we are too much in a hurry at all times. I like the quiet, peaceful mornings to recharge.

    You are so right. Our society tends to fill every single waking (and sometimes even the non-waking) moments of everyday. I get up an hour earlier than necessary in order to just sit in the quiet with my bible and my devotions. I can’t always control the rest of the day, but I can choose not to be rushed during my early morning time. I cannot live without it. Great post, good reminder to slow down, unplug, and learn to relax and enjoy this precious thing we call life.
